For those who have given up on modern indie horror, this wildly eccentric and inventive little indie gem will come as a breath of fresh, offbeat, and invigorating air. Boldly combining elements of "Evil Dead"-era Sam Raimi (a bunch of young folks encounter all sorts of unexpected peril when they venture into the remote wilderness on a camping expedition) with freaky Cronenbergesque techno-terror stuff ala "Videodrome" (a gun bursts out of a man's forehead in one truly startling scene), the entertaining and imaginative story veers off in some truly surprising and unpredictable directions when it turns out that the engaging central protagonists are products of a nefarious mysterious experiment conducted by a sinister major corporation. Further enhanced by striking visual flourishes, a galvanizing rock soundtrack, creative direction, jolting moments of outrageous gore, a crafty script that's loaded with all kinds of crazy and inspired ideas, a pleasingly ambiguous narrative, a hip high energy style, and nifty special appearances by always reliable genre stalwarts Tiffany Shepis, Edwin Neal, Felissa Rose, and Fred Williamson, this delightfully idiosyncratic blast is sure to restore one's faith in Do-It-Yourself independent fright fare.
