Richard's party suddenly meets the remaining members of Kahlan's order, who flee general Demmin Nass's troops to the coast to take refuge on a magically protected island to avoid extinction. To Kahlan's amazement it includes her presumed-dead sister Dennee, who very soon gives birth. Instead of the long-hoped new confessor, it's a boy, who by tradition must by ritually sacrificed out of fear he'll grow up as a mighty monster. Richard refuses to allow such cruelty and gets the confession-spellbound father Finn on his side, The order's mother resorts to confessing Zed to enforce execution, but Richard still puts up a formidable fight for innocent life. Richard Cypher: They'll be fine. You said it yourself. Dennee and Finn can't be confessed. So their son's touch will have no effect. He can't be seduced by his own power if he's unable to use it. Once they reach Valeria, there won't be anyone to corrupt him. With no one to corrupt him, they can raise him to be a force for good.
Kahlan Amnell: But what if we're wrong? What if we've unleashed a horrible evil into the world? What then?

Though the show completely breaks away from the books on many levels, it has paid off in the best way with (what I am sure is a shared fantasy) Kahlan playing the role of Mord Sith! Freaking awesome! Some of the acting was a little stiff, but the story is progressing smoothly and actually tries to introduce some of the touchier issues that come up in the books. I know die-hard fanboys will complain that the show doesn't handle these issues (like why a male confessor can't live) in a half-hearted fashion, but this is regular cable, not HBO or Showtime where you can have carte blanche to cuss and show gratuitous adult themes. I think the creative team is doing a great job. I hope this show stays around for a while.
