Storyline

Richard Cypher's happy youth ends abruptly after Kahlan, a white witch from an ancient order, magically crosses the near-impenetrable border from the Midlands, Darken Rahl's grim D'Haran empire, to his own, yet pacific world. Richard's father George Cypher is killed, actually by Ranssyn Fane, an officer pursuing Kahlan, but he manages to make even Richard's big brother, the local first counselor Michael. Kahlna finds the great wizard Zeddicus "Zed" Zu'l Zorander and makes him help her explain to Richard his destiny, actually being adopted by George. Richard rejects it, but sword and magical book that come with it soon persuade him to accept becoming the Seeker, destined to stop Rahlan's bid to establish a dark world rule. Written by KGF Vissers

Goofs

It had previously been claimed that Richard arrives at his adopted fathers' house, with sword in hand even though he left the sword behind at Zeddicus' house. But Richard arrives at his father's house on Zeddicus' horse, which he took after his own horse was killed by the Gar. The sword was strapped to Zeddicus' horse's saddle. Kahlan even comments on that - as Richard rides off, she exclaims, "He's got the sword and the book". See more »

Not what readers of the Book would expect
1 November 2008 | by (State of Wasington USA) – See all my reviews

The Legend of the Seeker (at least as much of it as is shown in the 30 minute preview of this first episode) Differs in many ways from what is told in Wizards first Rule. Those who insist that a movie/TV show 'must' follow the details will find a wealth of things to dislike. Having just recently finished reading the last book of the Sword of Truth I can understand why they would object.

However, If you can set aside preconceived notions and watch the series unfold and tell it's story in it's own way without expecting it to follow the books you will find much to like.

It is not a series about the books, it is a re-telling of the story for a TV Audience. And in at least my opinion has the potential to tell the story well.

edit: sadly after watching this episode in full as well as the second episode "Destiny" I would not recommend the show to anyone who has already read the books.
