‘Mortal Kombat’ Writer Hired for ‘Men in Black 4′ Script & ’21 Jump Street 2′ Rewrite

3 May 2013 3:22 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Two of the sequels currently being juggled over at Columbia Pictures – along with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Girl Who Played With Fire – are Men in Black 4 and 21 Jump Street 2. The former is still in the early stages of development, but the latter was recently given a summer 2014 release date, which means that filming will probably begin in mid-to-late 2013.

Perhaps in the interests of expediency, Columbia has selected the same writer to work on both projects.

The Wrap reports that Oren Uziel will work on a rewrite of the 21 Jump Street sequel script that, as with the first movie, was written by Michael Bacall. Since directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (also returning after the ...

Morning!

A new web series called In the Deep follows four friends in London's East End, including Emilia, who "has a confusing ‘thing’ with Riley, her straight best friend who also has a boyfriend."

Here's the first episode.

The Ultimate Fighter is finally putting women on their show and current Ufc contender Miesha Tate said she thinks it's going to be "wild."

I think it's going to be Real World meets Tuf, and I don't know, I have this idea or joke actually that all the girls are going to be like lesbians or hooking up with all the girls, and all the boys are going on there with hope thinking like, "we're gonna be the first guys that have chicks on the show and this is going to be awesome." And the girls are going to be like, "no boys allowed. »

Australian Government Offers $22.5 Million for David Fincher’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

2 April 2013 8:56 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

At some point, Australian firstborn children are going to be offered so that the country can get David Fincher's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  Disney had previously asked for a 30% subsidy location rebate similar to what Fox got for The Wolverine.  Today, Deadline is reporting that Australia will make a $22.5 million one-off payment to get the project, which could create up to 2,000 jobs for the country. Despite this overture, Disney hasn't given Fincher a greenlight on his blockbuster feature because it still lacks a lead actor.  Brad Pitt had been circling the lead role of Captain Nemo, but ultimately passed.  Fincher was recently looking at Channing Tatum, but the actor has an incredibly busy schedule.  Until Fincher can find an available movie star, 20,000 Leagues is going to have to wait in dry dock.  In the meantime, Fincher might pursue Gone Girl or The Girl Who Played with Fire. »

50 Upcoming Movie Sequels (Yep, 50)

25 March 2013 7:00 AM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Sequels are awesome, plain and simple. Returning to familiar characters and worlds we love is like covering yourself with a warm blanket, although when a sequel is bad it can be like a blanket covered in potato bugs and lice. Studios love sequels because seven times out of ten they open huge, no matter how good they are.

With that in mind, here's 50 of your favorite titles all preparing to get new installments. Some of them are deep into pre-production while others have barely gotten out of the pitch stages, but you'll be salivating at the thought of some of these sweet babies finally making their way to the screen.

David Fincher’s ’20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ Moving Forward; No Brad Pitt

15 February 2013 7:52 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

We spent most of last year guessing what project David Fincher is directing next, with Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea remake and Sony’s The Girl Who Played with Fire being the front-runners. The filmmaker entered negotiations to adapt Gillian Flynn’s mystery book Gone Girl in January, leading some to wonder if Fincher had tired of studio executives holding up progress on those bigger-budget adaptations (not to mention, pondering unreasonable cost-cutting measures).

Disney has been weighing the decision to move forward with 20,000 Leagues since last October, back when Brad Pitt was reported as Fincher’s preferred choice to play sailor Ned Land (marking their fourth collaboration). It appears that the Mouse House is finally readying to commit; however, Pitt is not onboard (no pun)… not yet, anyway.

THR is reporting that Disney executives ...

Rooney Mara Says Daniel Craig Won't Be Written Out Of The Girl Who Played With Fire

6 February 2013 4:44 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Those familiar with Stieg Larsson's dark Swedish thriller trilogy known as the Millennium series know that Lisbeth Salander is lynchpin that brings the story together and is the central focus, but they also can't deny the importance of investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist. Thus it was odd when a rumor popped up earlier this week saying that there was a possibility that the lead male character, played by Daniel Craig, would be getting written out of The Girl Who Played With Fire due to contract and money issues. But now Craig's co-star has ridden in to splash some cold water on those reports. MTV recently caught up with Rooney Mara, who earned an Oscar nomination for her turn as Salander in David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and when they asked her about the reports surrounding Craig she completely denied it. ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel Still On Track, But…

1 February 2013 6:36 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

David Fincher’s big-screen remake of the late Stieg Larsson’s dark, controversial novel, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, was a solid piece of filmmaking and one which I loved. Already adapted in its Swedish homeland to critical acclaim, along with sequels The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest, it came no surprise Hollywood came calling and a huge money-spinning hit was expected on the back of both the cult trio of novels and films. One especially with Bond favourite Daniel Craig in the lead, alongside the stunning Oscar-nominated newcomer, Rooney Mara, as the tormented heroine of the title.

On a budget of around $90million, the film went on to gross just over $230 million worldwide which may seem impressive for an R rated film, but Sony expected so much more. It’s this reason why the studio have yet to officially commit »

Daniel Craig holding up Dragon Tattoo follow-up?

Is the price of Daniel Craig holding up The Girl Who Played WIth Fire?

Seemingly stuck in limbo since David Fincher's movie of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was released at Christmas 2011, the Hollywood takes on the rest of Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy appear some way from getting made.

So what's been the hold up? Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the growing star power of Daniel Craig may be one of the problems. A screenplay for The Girl Who Played With Fire is reportedly ready to go, having been penned by Steven Zaillian (who wrote the adaptation for the first film). But Sony is keen to bring the costs down on the second movie, and that may involve dropping Daniel Craig from the saga.

Will Daniel Craig be written out of the 'Dragon Tattoo' sequel?

31 January 2013 5:02 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

If this "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" sequel ever ends up happening, Daniel Craig may find himself being left out in the cold. Sony is said to be haggling with the actor over his salary on proposed follow-up "The Girl Who Played with Fire," a state of affairs that's reported to be holding up the project's forward momentum. Though the studio has an option on the star for two sequels (both of which would be adaptations of the final two books in Stieg Larsson's "Millenium" trilogy), The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that "Skyfall"'s $1 billion gross has become a major sticking »

Mr. Daniel "Pay Me What I'm Worth" Craig might just price himself right out of that Girl With The Dragon Tattoo sequel

As soon as it was announced that David Fincher was eyeing Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, many began questioning what had happened to that other dark thriller about a girl he was once so into, and whether he had maybe left it on the plane or something. As it turns out, both Sony and Fincher are still interested in making The Girl Who Played With Fire, but—after the relatively disappointing $230 million haul for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo—doing so on a smaller budget that will help it become the blockbuster they’d always hoped for, apparently »

‘Girl Who Played with Fire’ Could Move Forward Without Daniel Craig

31 January 2013 10:34 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

There are a handful of reasons why a followup to David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo adaptation, The Girl Who Played with Fire is not arriving this Fall, as was originally intended. On the creative side of development, both Fincher and screenwriter Steve Zaillian have been struggling to “make it [their] own thing,” as far as adapting Stieg Larsson’s source material goes.

However, financial issues are of greater concern for Sony, after Dragon Tattoo only proved to be a moderate box office success (a $233 million worldwide gross on a $90 million budget); not to mention, its profit margin is smaller when compared to director Niels Arden Oplev’s Swedish adaptation (which grossed $104 million on a $13 million budget). Hence, the sequel is shaping up leaner than its predecessor – which could mean ...

Could Daniel Craig Be Written Out Of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Sequel?

31 January 2013 9:55 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It.s a great question: Why haven.t we heard news about The Girl Who Played With Fire? David Fincher.s English-language adaptation of Stieg Larsson.s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo seemed to kick-start a new trilogy, this one with Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig in the key lead roles. Tattoo banked $233 million worldwide, which is very good (but not enough to guarantee a sequel). And the director has expressed interest in coming back for at least the second chapter in this trilogy. So what.s the hold up? THR is gently pointing its finger at Craig, who the trade says .want(s) a pay raise, not a cut, in the wake of Skyfall grossing $1 billion worldwide.. Makes sense, only Sony seems to sense a ceiling to the amount of money these Larsson adaptation can make and is looking to reduce costs, not increase them. As a result, »

'Dragon Tattoo' Sequel Could Move Forward Without Daniel Craig... But It Shouldn't

31 January 2013 9:30 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" could very well get a sequel after all — it just might happen without Daniel Craig.

A new report published by The Hollywood Reporter examines exactly where the "Dragon Tattoo" sequel, "The Girl Who Played with Fire," stands. According to the article, it appears that Craig is the hold-up due to "Skyfall"-fueled salary demands. But since the character he plays, crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist, has a reduced role in the second Stieg Larsson novel the movie is based on, it's reported that Sony might move forward with a sequel without Craig or Blomkvist in tow.

Yeah, I know. I completely agree: it makes no frickin' sense.

"Dragon Tattoo" wasn't a box-office powerhouse like some expected it would be; costs must go down to make any kind of sequel profitable. But you can't cut one of the two central characters to save some cash. Blomkvist »

The Girl Who Played with Fire May Write Out Daniel Craig

31 January 2013 8:50 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Despite the solid $233 million worldwide box office performance of 2011's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we still haven't heard much about Sony's sequel, The Girl Who Played with Fire. The studio is still moving forward with the sequel, although they may have to do so without Daniel Craig.

Insiders indicate that the actor, who played Swedish journalist Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is seeking a hefty pay raise, in the wake of Skyfall's massive success. The studio, which is already looking for ways to cut costs on the sequel, is currently weighing its options, one of which may be to write his character completely out of The Girl Who Played with Fire. A representative for the actor stated that negotiations have not begun yet, but he does want to reprise his role.

Daniel Craig Cut From "Girl" Sequel?

31 January 2013 8:38 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

If there was one big difference between the two film adaptations of Stieg Larsson's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," it was profitability.

The 2009 Swedish-language film was shot on a budget of just $13 million, and the final result was good enough to look about double that. More importantly it made $104 million in box-office worldwide, around eight times its budget.

On the flip side, David Fincher's English-language version clocked in at a considerable $90 million budget. While its worldwide haul of $232 million was quite solid, it wasn't enough for Sony to get particularly excited about continuing this franchise.

They still intend to move forward though, so long as the budget for the sequel "The Girl Who Played with Fire" can be brought down considerably.

Today though, THR reports that the present hold-up on the franchise isn't the studio, star Rooney Mara, or even Fincher - it is actor Daniel Craig. »

Sony is looking to cut costs on the Stieg Larsson sequel and could potentially write Craig's character Mikael Blomkvist out of the movie, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Steven Zaillian has written the script for the movie, which is described as "production-ready". The studio may need to turn to another writer if Blomkvist has to be written out of the picture.

A Craig source allegedly claimed that the 007 star hasn't started negotiations yet and is keen to return for the follow-up.
