Kausalya comes to Chennai in search of her lover Karthik . She rents a place from Prabhu to stay for a few days . Ponnambalam the local don has his eyes on every pretty girl . To keep Kausalya out of his clutches, Prabhu says that she is his wife . Very soon She meets Karthik and Prabhu has a tough time explaining this situation to Ponnambalam as to why she is roaming around with Karthik.
A parallel story is that Prabhu is actually the maternal uncle of Kausalya and still wishes to marry her.He had run away from his house a few decades back and Kausalya today does not remember his face . She wishes to marry Karthik and is scared that her maternal uncle ( Prabhu ) might return to claim his right . A hurt Prabhu decides to move out of the way . He gives his own obituary in the papers to convince Kausalya that she can go ahead with her marriage with Karthik. Karthik sees through this game of Prabhu and does the final sacrifice of letting him have Kausalya . The movie belongs to Prabhu who acts very well as the misunderstood country bumpkin , he shows the hurt , the love , the emotional confusion upon encountering Kausalya at every step very finely. Kausalya is glamorous with a slim figure , wears nice sarees and sings nice duets . Karthik is super in his mall role as the happy go lucky , city bred, nonchalant lover and the final sacrificer . Over all a nice movie .
