Funny but no real belly laughs

Warning: Spoilers
I picked up the DVD of this show because I missed Tiernan when I saw the comedy tour The Fellas that he headlined (it also included Dylan Moran and Ardal O'Hanlon) for reasons known only to the theater the time between the Fellas was longer than the time they spent on stage and the person I was with grew tired in the long interval before Tiernan and we went home. Wanting to laugh last night before I went to bed I popped in the disc.

As an introduction to Tiernan I was kind of disappointed. He is certainly a funny fellow but I found myself chuckling gently rather than having a big belly laugh. His stream of consciousness musing that jump from subject to subject is nice but at the same time it never allows him to build up much of a head of steam in any one place. Profanity, the weather, shooting, the pope, Spain, and on and on and on a minute or two on each subject before its the next thing. I laughed but I kept waiting for the next step up in humor to belly laughs, instead it was all nice and even chuckles. Its not bad, but I wanted it to be funnier. Worth a look if you run across it just don't expect belly laughs. (And be careful if you see this on any sort of commercial TV since Tiernan is free with profanity which will end up bleeped, no doubt it will result in an interesting viewing experience)
