Plot Summary

  • Tommy, a gifted teenage composer, dreams of being accepted into the famous Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Unfortunately, a good band is hard to find in the middle of Outback Australia - until a strange incident involving flying watermelons leads him to a group of talented prison inmates.

  • Tommy McAlpine dreams of entering a music conservatory, leaving behind his dad's sheep farm where his musical directions are often ridiculed. When Tommy and spoiled-rotten rich schoolmate Kat are sentenced to community service for a childish watermelons prank, Tommy elects to become a prison training volunteer, turning the punishment into an opportunity to train a cons band to (secretly) premier his college audition composition. Frequent escapee Kalai Takalua supports the project, as does the unsympathetic warden, curiously enough. In time, hidden agendas take over.
