- In Texas, local business owner Rod Norris is killed by an explosion in his house. Two deputies are the first respondents, and they are immediately gunned down by the bomber. The killer adds posthumous injuries to the body of Deputy Lou Savage, indicating his anger and hatred for the man. The FBI profilers are called to the case, and they quickly determine that the killer is Owen Savage, Lou's adolescent son. Lou had been verbally and emotionally abusing Owen for several years. Rod was physically abusive to his daughter Jordan Norris, who was Owen's girlfriend. Jordan has gone missing, following Owen's clumsy attempt to fake her death. While investigating Owen's past, the profilers learn that Owen was a bright student despite suffering from severe dyslexia. He was the victim of hazing and cyber-bullying by other boys, and his teachers never lifted a finger to help him. When told by the principal that boys have a way of sorting out these incidents themselves, Reid responds that Owen is sorting out his problems with an assault rifle. While Owen continues killing people who bullied or humiliated either him or Jordan, the profilers try to determine the location of Owen's hideout and to communicate with Jordan. Reid starts getting disturbing insights into Owen's way of thinking, due to his own past history of being bullied, and the way that authority figures failed to help him. Reid is determined to capture Owen alive.—Dimos I
- Although being drug free for ten months, Reid recently had cravings due to stress related to a recent case, and attends his first substance abuse support meeting for law enforcement officials. He is surprised to see a familiar face at the meeting. Beyond the meeting, these cravings are once again affecting his behavior, which is showing up at work. Meanwhile in West Bune, Texas, two die in a house explosion, one they know to be the home owner Rod Morris. They suspect the other is his slightly mentally challenged teen-aged daughter Jordan Morris, who could not be identified because of the condition of the body. Two more are killed as the first responders to the explosion, the responders being police officers Deputies Savage and Letts who were ambushed by gunfire. The border states were on high alert because of a terrorist threat, which the BAU don't initially know if they believe is associated. Upon initial review of the evidence, the BAU know that they are not dealing with terrorists, but someone whose main targets were specifically Rod Morris and Deputy Lou Savage. All evidence points to the unsub being Owen Savage, Deputy Savage's teen-aged son who was dating Jordan. Owen, with a cache of weapons, is seemingly on the run with another person. As they track Owen, the BAU have to find out if Owen's companion is an accomplice or a hostage. As the BAU dig deeper, they see a young man who is lashing out at a world who neither understands or supports him or Jordan. Beyond his drug cravings, this case is especially difficult for Reid who can relate to Owen's plight.—Huggo
