Noose in the attic
2 January 2010 | by (New York) – See all my reviews

The granddaughter of Emily Patterson, a woman that died under strange circumstances in 1962, contacts the Cold Case team because she has found something new that might help solve the case. Emily who was married to poet Daniel Patterson was found hanging from one of the rafters of her attic. The paper that Liza West found among her grandmother's papers is a suicide note similar to the one found at the scene in 1962. The only problem, the apparent suicide note was not written by Emily.

As the team becomes involved in the process of investigation, something comes clear, Emily was not a desperate woman to do such thing. In fact, her housekeeper, Annette, knows a lot more than she tells the detectives. So does her own husband, Daniel, now a celebrity poet himself. Emily's own daughter, Rachel West, seems to have erased her mind of that tragic point in her life.

The investigators get lucky when a paper from the attic reveals one of Emiliy's own poetry that appeared in one of Daniel's books. Annette and Daniel are asked questions about Emily's tragic end. Rachel West realizes how much her mother really loved her as the investigation concludes and the detectives have their culprit.

Kevin Bray, one of the men that has contributed to the success the series is the director of this episode. Erica Shelton wrote the screen play. We would have liked to have seen more of Frances Fisher, who is the adult Rachel in the show. She does wonders with her two short scenes. Same can be said of Ronnie Cox, a veteran actor that always convinces. Emily Rose plays Emily Patterson and the supporting cast do a good job for Mr. Bray.
