Storyline

Handmade utopias - a filmic search for the worldwide phenomenon of the micronation movement. Do-it-yourself states that have distanced themselves from the economic and political mainstreaming of globalization. A road movie covering land, water and the wildest realms of the imagination. Simultaneously creative documentary and pulsating cultural portrait, the film traces a new "unplugged" generation - their motives, their anxieties and their dreams. A film that shows how this generation realizes its escapist fantasies in new economic and political forms and how they collide with oppressive everyday realities. Written by PaulPoet@gmx.net

Trivia

The film was awarded the main prize at 2012 edition of French AUBAGNE FILMFESTIVAL ex aequo with Australian movie "Toomelah" by Ivan Sen. Since the prize couldn't be split, "EMPIRE ME" was given an alternative main prize named "Prix du Film Rebelle", the Rebel Movie Award, that was only given this year at this festival and deemed fit for a movie that defies all usual categories like this one. Director/Author Paul Poet and Score Composer Alexander Hacke both received this prize. See more »

Great Movie!
16 February 2018 | by See all my reviews

I saw this movie yesterday for the first but fore sure not the last time! Such a fascinating and staggering theme directed so thrilling! unbelieveable pictures!

Everybody should see this movie and take these 6 stories to heart. Nowadays political turbulances with all that re-arising of the right - wing extremism make movies like "Empire Me" so absolutely important. So glad to read that "Empire Me" got a prize named "Prix du Film Rebelle"! Thanks to Paul Poet for this really "moving" movie!
