Legend of Tarzan Review: Swing Past This Remake

30 June 2016 8:04 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

If you do a search for Tarzan on IMDb, you'll find exactly 200 titles. This search seemingly includes a number of obscure projects that have nothing to do with the King of the Jungle, such as Barzan and an Indian film dubbed Taarzan: The Wonder Car, which seems like a Knight Rider rip-off. Still, that number is particularly staggering, considering that the character himself is just over 100 years old, with Edgar Rice Burroughs' famous creation first appearing in a magazine back in 1912. And yet, even with all of this lore and history, the powers that be still feel another Tarzan reboot is needed with this weekend's The Legend of Tarzan. They are sorely mistaken.

I don't consider myself a Tarzan aficionado or scholar whatsoever. I remember watching the 1984 film Greystoke when I was a wee lad in the 1980s, but the character itself was never one I was thoroughly obsessed with. »

John Krasinski Is the New Jack Ryan

Not too long after Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit opened in theaters, Chris Pine confirmed that was his first and last time playing Tom Clancy’s hero. Since Kenneth Branagh’s film was the lowest grossing Jack Ryan picture to date, that news didn’t come as a shock to anyone. Shadow Recruit performed well overseas, but the thriller only made around $50 million in the […]

John Krasinski to Star in Amazon’s ‘Jack Ryan’ TV Series

29 April 2016 3:51 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Meet the new Jack Ryan.

John Krasinski has landed the coveted role in Amazon’s TV series from Carlton Cuse, based on Tom Clancy’s famed CIA character.

Insiders tell Variety that Krasinski has been Cuse’s top pick for the lead role ever since the project was developed.

Cuse and “Lost” alum Graham Roland are shepherding the Jack Ryan adaptation. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Paramount TV and Skydance TV are producing.

The project reunites Krasinski with Bay, who directed the drama “13 Hours,” in which the actor starred earlier this year. Krasinski, whose casting was first reported by Deadline, rose to fame on “The Office.”

The Jack Ryan series landed at Amazon with a series commitment, contrasting from their typical pilot testing method for potential shows. Though the series has not yet been greenlit, Krasinski’s casting will likely expedite the process. No episode order has been determined.

John Krasinski Is The New TV Jack Ryan

"The Office" and "13 Hours" star John Krasinski is set to play Jack Ryan, the popular CIA analyst and hero of Tom Clancy's novels, for a new TV series in the works at Amazon.

The streaming giant handed out a series commitment with the intention to go straight-to-series, but a green light hasn't been given just yet. The casting of Krasinski however will likely push it forward. "Lost" co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland are behind the project, along with Platinum Dunes and Skydance Media.

Five films have been made with the character including John McTiernan's cinematic classic "The Hunt for Red October," Phil Noyce's very well-regarded "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger," Phil Alden Robinson's respected "The Sum of All Fears" and Kenneth Branagh's disappointing "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit". Four actors have taken on the role including Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine. »

The Rise and Rise of London as a film location

10 April 2016 4:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

This week, Neil Calloway argues that tax, language and excellent locations mean London is currently the best place to make films…

With the release this week of the trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that Canary Wharf Underground Station was standing in for the Death Star in some shots. Now, anyone who has ever been stuck on the tube during rush hour can relate to the Underground being an evil engineering project designed to destroy people, but it also reminded the world that London has become probably the top destination for blockbuster film-makers.

Of course, films have always been shot in and around London, but in recent years more and more films have been shot in the capital, including films not set there (which, given that the Death Star is near Yavin and not on the Isle of Dogs, would include Rogue One). The 2012 adaptation »

Cillian Murphy reteams with Christopher Nolan for Dunkirk

6 April 2016 12:47 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Wrap is reporting that Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy is reteaming with director Christopher Nolan on his new film Dunkirk.

The new film written by Nolan tells the story of the World War II evacuation of Dunkirk during Operation Dynamo, which saved over 330,000 Allied soldiers from surrounding German forces.

Murphy previously worked with Nolan on The Dark Knight Trilogy, where he played Dr. Jonathan Crane aka The Scarecrow, and in 2010’s sci-fi action-thriller Inception. He joins fellow Nolan favourite Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), Kenneth Branagh (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) and Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) as part of the supporting cast.

The casting of Nolan’s “lucky charm” Michael Caine shouldn’t be too far away.

Dunkirk stars newcomer Fionn Whitehead, War and Peace stars Aneurin Barnard and Jack Lowden and One Direction singer Harry Styles, and will be shot on both IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-formats. »

Indiana Jones 5 Screenwriter Revealed, Harrison Ford Says He's Excited To Return

22 March 2016 6:46 AM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

With the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it was only a matter of time before Disney turned to their other big Lucasfilm acquisition, Indiana Jones.  Last week, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford were confirmed to be returning for a fifth installment, set to be released on July 19, 2019.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Koepp, who wrote 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will also return to write the script.  Koepp has also written Jurassic Park (1993), Mission: Impossible (1996),  Spider-Man (2002) and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014). To be fair to Koepp, he had the unenviable task of trying to cobble together a coherent script for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from prior drafts written by George LucasJeff Nathanson and Frank Darabont.  This time around, it appears that Koepp will have the freedom to develop his own ideas.  Currently the film is scheduled to go against Inhumans »

'Indiana Jones 5' Brings Back 'Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' Writer

Uh-oh! Some of you are really not going to like this. David Koepp has been confirmed as the screenwriter for the recently announced Indiana Jones 5. He is a longtime Steven Spielberg collaborator. And while many enjoyed his work on the Jurassic Park script, he's also the man responsible for what most fans consider the worst movie in the Indiana Jones franchise, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which hit theaters in 2008.

Disney and Lucasfilm announced Indiana Jones 5 earlier this week. The latest sequel will once again reunite star Harrison Ford and director Steven Spielberg. Other movies that David Koepp has written for Steven Spielberg include The Lost World: Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds.

It should be noted that David Koepp is not the sole writer on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. So he's not entirely to blame. He cobbled the screenplay together from »

After the big announcement this week that Indiana Jones will be returning in a fifth movie, we have more news on the project today as Disney has announced the screenwriter to take charge of the newest entry in the franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, regular Steven Spielberg collaborator David Koepp has been tapped to write the new film, after previously co-writing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. He has also worked with the director on Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds.

More recently, Koepp has worked on Inferno, the latest Dan Brown adaptation due for release this summer starring Tom Hanks and directed by Ron Howard, as well as Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and 2012’s Premium Rush, which he also directed.

Harrison Ford returns as Indiana Jones on July 19th, 2019.
