Sex & Nudity

  • Some sexual references and references to rape
  • In the background of a scene, a man looks at a picture of a scantily-clad woman. Very brief and not too noticeable.
  • A beaten and bruised woman is shown. It is later said she was raped. The act is never shown, though and neither is any nudity.

Violence & Gore

  • Nothing super graphic, but there is gang related violence periodically
  • A character trips over and blood is seen on the floor.
  • A man occasionally coughs up blood due to illness.
  • A man is burned in the cheek with a lit cigarette by a gang of thugs.
  • A gang drive-by shooting riddles a house and one character is wounded in the neck.
  • A man is dragged out of his house and he is kicked and punched. You can see bruises and he is bleeding. He is then held up at gunpoint.
  • Most of the violence occurs offscreen and when we do see it, it is dark and most of the visuals can be missed.

Profanity

  • Slurs for African Americans, Italians, Poles, Hispanics, Jews, Indians, Asians and LGBT people are heard throughout the movie.
  • 71 "F" words (1 used sexually, 4 used with "mother"), 23 shits, 9 slang terms using male genitals ("d*ck" and "pr*ck"), 6 using female ones ("p*ssy"), 23 asses (1 used with "hole"), 12 hells, 8 S.O.B.s, 2 damns, 7 uses each of "Goddamn" and "Jesus Christ," 5 of "Jesus," 2 each of "For Christ's sakes" and "God," and 1 use each of "Christ," "Jesus, Mary and Joseph" and "Lord Almighty."

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Walt drinks beer on occasions and is offered rice liquor from the Hmong family
  • A man drinks a lot of beer. Alcoholic drinks are shown consumed at social gatherings and a bar.
  • Walt's granddaughter who is about 18 is smoking.
  • A man smokes on screen a few times. It is inferred that he has developed lung cancer as a result of his constant habit. He is seen coughing up blood a few times.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film can be intense throughout due to the fear that violence will erupt or characters may be hurt in stand-off, gang-related scenes.
  • The scene on the lawn is quite intense.
  • Several scenes of characters pointing guns at each other as well as some scenes of shootings.

Violence & Gore

  • A woman returns home beaten up and it is later stated that the young woman had been raped. There are streaks of blood running from her face down to her legs. Her legs are stained with blood implying she was raped.
  • A man is shot all over his body from multiple guns. Some blood mist is seen as blood tickles down his chest, but as it's dark a lot of the blood could be missed. Some of this is shown in slow motion, he falls and there are several shots of his bloody wounds, though blood is vaguely seen due to darkness. Blood is seen dripping down his wrist. Blood is seen coming out of his mouth.
  • A man bloodies his knuckles in two separate incidents- one time blood is seen dripping from his hands.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • People might find it emotional when one of the main characters gets killed.
