Fitting send-off to Corey Carrier and Ruth de Sosa, 4 December 2010
Author: antonjsw1 from United Kingdom

This next adventure of the recut for DVD is the final episode featuring Ruth de Sosa (playing Indy's mum) and the Corey Carrier incarnation of Indiana Jones, as the next, The Spring Break Adventure, would fast forward a number of years, and have Indy played by Sean Patrick Flannery. Building on the more character driven approach these TV movies have, this one focuses on the Jones family visiting India and China, with Henry Jones Senior, played by Lloyd Owen, taking much more of a background role. In the first story, young Indy meets the young savant called Krishnamurti, who is thought be by some to be the embodiment of the second coming. Young Indy, in his usual no respect for authority manner, sees him as just another young boy and this this story becomes a very enjoyable yet accessible journey for the audience as the two boys bond and discuss some quite weighty issues in an entertaining and accessible way. Kudos has to go to the two young actors, Carrier and Indian child actor Hemanth Rao, who both turns strong and charismatic performances. The supporting cast are also very effective, and Margaret Tyzack, playing Indy's teacher Miss Seymour is the best and most enjoyable supporting character throughout the Carrier starring adventures. Credit has to go to director Deepa Mehta for creating a realistic impression of India, and drawing the best performances from the cast for this series so far. Production designer Gavin Bouquet also deserves acknowledgement for his work on the series so far, and it would be this work that would mean him becoming production designer on the Star Wars prequels.

The second part set in China is the swansong for a number of characters, and interestingly Corey Carrier's Indy is more of a supporting player, with this story belonging more to Margaret Tyzack and in particular Ruth de Sosa. They both turn in strong performances and sustain your interest in this more adventure-based story, peppered with references to China's history, and while the ending comes as no surprise its nevertheless enjoyable getting there. A very good story and the best one with Corey Carrier, as it builds the ground for Sean Patrick Flannery to take over.
