Shia LaBeouf actually ingested LSD to make the scene seem "more real".
In the early years of development, Shia LaBeouf dropped out of the project, and the title role was briefly given to Zac Efron, before LaBeouf returned to the project.
The screenplay for this film was featured in the 2007 Blacklist; a list of the "most liked" unmade scripts of the year.
Freida Pinto was considered for the role of Gabi Ibanescu.
The cab driver calls Charlie Countryman, "Robert Redford". Shia starred alongside Redford in The Company You Keep (2012).

She called it another shameful example of the MPAA censoring female sexuality, whereas the organization had allowed many acts of graphic violence in the film without demanding alterations.
