Second Opinion – David Brent: Life on the Road (2016)

David Brent: Life on the Road, 2016.

Written and Directed by Ricky Gervais.

Starring Ricky Gervais, Jo Hartley, Ben Bailey Smith, Tom Basden, Tom Bennett, Mandeep Dhillon and Abbey Murphy.

Synopsis:

A camera crew catches up with David Brent, the former star of the fictional British series, “The Office” as he now fancies himself a rockstar on the road.

The Office was one of the most successful British comedies of the last twenty years. Its influence can be seen in cringe-coms like Curb Your Enthusiam and documentary-style shows such as Modern Family and, of course, the incredibly popular American remake. It was also one of those very rare shows that didn’t outstay its welcome and went out with a perfect finale. The prospect of that ending being tarnished by a big-screen spin-off set 13 years later made this particular fan quite nervous, but two minutes into the film I was laughing

Ricky Gervais Returns as David Brent in The Office Spinoff Music Video

The Office is considered one of the best American sitcoms of the 2000s. Though, it was based on a UK comedy that came a few years before it from the creative and hilarious mind of Ricky Gervais. Gervais is reprising his iconic role of ex-boss David Brent in the all-new feature film Life on the Road. It was announced that this upcoming comedy will debut exclusively on Netflix in the U.S. and select international territories sometime in 2017. But it is getting a proper theatrical release in London and surrounding territories this summer. To help celebrate, BBC Films and EntertainmentOne have released a new video, which finds Gervais sliding into the sleeveless white T of his most popular character to date.

David Brent is seen wondering through the woods, wistfully singing the catchy folk song 'Lady Gypsy'. David Brent has released music videos before, the most popular of which was 'Equality Street'.

Tom Hughes isn't upset about The Game cancellation: 'It worked as a standalone series'

We were disappointed when BBC Two axed spy thriller The Game after just one series, but its lead star Tom Hughes has revealed that he wasn't upset about the decision.

The Cemetery Junction actor told Digital Spy: "The Game works as a standalone series. The story was nicely tied up, and it reached a natural conclusion.

"You can always write more stories, and had there been a second series it would have been something I'd love to have done, but as far as I was concerned I was proud of it. I don't feel like it was diminished by not coming back, quite the opposite.

"I loved the job, and I learnt a hell of a lot from it. When I read it, it was always a standalone series for me, and if it came back it would have been a different show in many ways."

Hughes will next be

Ricky Gervais' 'Special Correspondent', Starring Eric Bana, Lands at Netflix

Ricky Gervais' Special Correspondent, which he will direct and star in alongside Eric Bana, is yet another film to be housed under Netflix's movie distribution model. Having acquired Cary Fukunaga's much-buzzed Beasts of No Nation and producing new films from Adam Sandler, Pee-Wee Herman and the Duplass brothers, they continue their film plans by acquiring the new comedy, continuing their working relationship with Gervais, which began when they streamed the comedian's BBC sitcom Derek. Variety reports plans are to release Special Correspondent next year worldwide, and according to Karen Barragan, Netflix's spokewoman, the satire will not have a theatrical release, and will premiere exclusively on the site. Does this mean, after their debacles with major theater chains concerning Beast of No Nation and that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel Netflix has turned to releasing their film acquisitions exclusively on their sitec Time will only tell, it seems. "Having shaken up the TV industry,
