Storyline

Henry Jones Sr. takes his wife, son and the boy's tutor to the world's first psycho-analytical conference in Viena, Austria in November 1908. Young Indy meets Princess Sophie of Austia, daughter of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and develops deep feelings for her. He even asks Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung and Alfred Adler for love advice. On their next stop in Florance, Anna Jones becomes the object of affection for the persuasive opera composer Giacomo Puccini. With her husband away in Rome, Anna is torn between her feelings for her husband and the impulsive Italian.

The establishing shot of the small Italian hotel 'La Terrazza' is used again as a Greek hotel 'Noyoapa' at the end of the DVD version of The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Travels with Father (though not the TV version). The only difference being the name on the marquee and the addition of a horse and carriage in the 'Greek' segment.

Bold and Interesting

The third of these re cut for DVD TV episodes is interesting shows that the episodes are proving solid entertainment.If you get over the rather jarring changes of age that Corey Carrier goes through these are quite interesting and show this Young Indy to be quite a tearaway. In these episodes he develops a crush on a young girl princess, and this story is quite charming, even though I felt Indy was slightly too young. Carrier and Amalie Ihle Alstrup, playing the young princess give decent performances, but the standout is a fun cameo by Max Von Sydow playing Freud. In the second part, which is stronger, Indy's mum, played by Ruth de Sousa is courted by the artist Puccini, flamboyantly played by George Corroface. This is a very bold story, especially for a family show, which looks at potential infidelity and Ruth de Sousa, Carrier and Margaret Tyzack all give thoughtful and meaningful performances in this section.

In summary a bold and daring story, with good performances all round.
