Jon M. Chu Godfathers ‘Run,’ High Concept Horror For Lionsgate

10 December 2013 10:58 AM, PST | Deadline | See recent Deadline news »

Exclusive: G.I. Joe: Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu and Hieu Ho have made a deal to produce Run, a high concept action horror film they’ve set at Lionsgate under their Chu Studios banner. Alex Ankeles & Morgan Jurgenson are writing the script, and John Sacchi is overseeing for Lionsgate. Ankeles is repped by CAA and Kaplan/Perrone; Jurgenson is Apa and Jonathan Hung, while Chu’s repped by Pye, Wme and Smgsb. This is another example of Chu branching out. He started on a musical track, helming Step Up 2: The Streets with Briana Evigan and Channing Tatum, and Step Up 3D, both of which grossed big overseas. Chu then directed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, before moving into the action arena with the G.I. Joe sequel, which was reframed at a more reasonable price point. Chu’s next is Justin Bieber’s Believe, which Open Road releases this month. »

Watch: James Mangold's 'Call Of Duty' Ad With Megan Fox, Jon M. Chu's Musical Virgin Airlines Spot & More

5 November 2013 9:37 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

It’s tough finding funding for a non-tentpole these days and it’s only getting harder, so what’s a director to do? How about shooting a commercial on the fly to keep the juices flowing and the lights on? First up, is James Mangold’s action-packed ad for latest entry in the blockbuster “Call of Duty” franchise, “Call of Duty: Ghosts.” Centered around a group of guys ostensibly having a night out in Las Vegas, the ad instead has the bros acting out dozens of different action movies with a cameo from Megan Fox. It’s about the kind of thing you’d expect for a “Call of Duty” ad but it’s clear that the “Wolverine” director knows his way around an action set piece. He's certainly keeping his chops honed before making "The Wolverine" sequel. [Slashfilm] Chances are that you’ve seen the new inflight safety video from »

Victoria Justice and Pierson Fode have signed on to star in Kristin Hanggi's indie rom-com "Naomi + Ely’s No Kiss List".

The story revolves around Nyu freshmen and childhood neighbors Naomi (Justice) and Ely (Fode), who have been in love with one another their whole lives, even though Ely is gay.

The institution of a "No Kiss List" has prevented the two from rifts in the past, but their bond is tested when they both fall for the same guy.

Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer ("Step Up 3D") adapted the screenplay from the popular young-adult novel by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan (Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist).

Hanggi, Alexandra Milchan, Lesley Vogel, Emily Gerson Saines and Bob Abramoff are producing. The film is currently shooting in New York City.

The HeyUGuys Interview: Sharni Vinson Talks Strong Female Roles Ahead of the Release of You’re Next

26 August 2013 7:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

As strong, female roles become more prominent in Hollywood action movies, one of the more notable performances of the lot belongs to Australian actress Sharni Vinson, in her upcoming feature You’re Next – and we had the pleasure in discussing the rise of such roles with the talented performer.

Kicking serious ass in her latest flick, the former Home & Away star Vinson discusses the allurement in taking such action orientated roles, as well as how she prepares – both physically and mentally – for such a part. She also tells us about her love for the horror genre as well as her own future behind the camera, hoping to emulate the likes of Adam Wingard and Joe Swanberg, the director and co-star, respectively, on this memorable project.

So tell us about Erin – she’s quite a character.

She is awesome. I want to be Erin. How do I be here for the rest of my life? »

You’Re Next – The Review

23 August 2013 11:12 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Review by Michael Haffner

It seems each year we’re treated to another standard home invasion film, rife with your standard horror clichés: a romantic couple is isolated in the woods; intruders attempt to enter the home; screaming ensues.  One could even say the slasher films of the 80’s like Friday The 13th is an extension of this idea, but often with those films you end up rooting for the killer Jason more than you do the mindless teenagers. This sub-genre hasn’t worn out its welcome yet like some have said about the current fad in “zombies.”

Yet, it should be noted that this is the second film this year – after the political home invasion The Purge – to attempt to bring something new to the fold.  You’Re Next, much like last year’s equally entertaining Cabin In The Woods, is a horror film that knows exactly what it »

Review: You're Next

22 August 2013 12:00 PM, PDT | Slackerwood | See recent Slackerwood news »

Family dinners can be hell. Just ask the Davisons, or what's left of them, in the horror flick You're Next, opening Friday. During a rare family dinner to celebrate the wedding anniversary of Aubrey (Barbara Crampton) and Paul (Rob Moran), a mysterious gang of masked murderers invades the Davisons' grand backwoods vacation home, only to find out that one of the victims harbors a deadly secret themselves.

Director Adam Wingard may be best known for his low-budget horror films A Horrible Way to Die (which also co-stars Aj Bowen) and V/H/S, and it's this keen sensibility to make something visually grand out of nothing that puts You're Next ahead of other recent horror and suspense films. But that's not saying much.

The blood-splattered "You're Next" on walls and glass is a schtick that's been done to death and that the movie could have done without (and would've been »

Sharni Vinson Would Be Game For Tomb Raider And Elektra

While promoting her new horror film, You're Next (which is receiving rave reviews from the critics), Australian actress Sharni Vinson (Step Up 3D) spoke with Flicks and the City about her interest in Tomb Raider and Elektra. Vinson has gone on record previously to state that she'd like to reboot the Tomb Raider film series and expanded further on those thoughts here about why she's interested in Lara Croft. "It's those exact type of roles that I'm really seeking. Roles that I can sink my teeth into as an actor but also as someone that [grew up] with so many sports and is super, super physical. The more you can put me in training and the more I can actually do on a set, the better for me. Standing and delivering a line every now and then gets quite old, quite quickly. When it comes to »
