Storyline

James Bond is a worldwide icon, but is Ian Fleming's creation based on a real character? This documentary profiles the wartime exploits of Dusko Popov, a double-agent who worked for Britain and the U.S. against Germany, and reveals how Fleming used his imagination to weave the adventures of Popov and others into "Casino Royale" and subsequent James Bond stories. Includes clips from Bond films and classified wartime footage, plus interviews with MI6 figures, Popov's son, Hilary Saltzman (daughter of James Bond producer Harry Saltzman), David Giammarco ( actor and author of the best-selling book "For Your Eyes Only: Behind the Scenes of the James Bond Films"), Andrew Lycett (Ian Fleming biographer), and other experts on the clandestine world of Ian Fleming and the James Bond films. Trivia

Dusan "Dusko" Popov OBE (born July 10, 1912 in Titel, Austro-Hungary, died 1981, in Opio, Alpes-Maritimes, France) was a real life double agent working for British Intelligence (MI6) during World War II, using the code name "Tricycle." Popov was a well known playboy and "ladies man," and was given the code name of "Tricycle" because of his frequent trysts involving three way sex. He was awarded the "OBE" (Officer of the British Empire) after the war. See more »

Way to Go! Encore "True Bond"
3 July 2012 | by (Wisconsin, United States) – See all my reviews

Absolutely! I am Very Thankful for Encore presenting a documentary entitled True Bond, which starts on June 22, 2012 (today is July 3) that deals with one of the real life people that Ian Fleming based the character of James Bond on - Dušan "Duško" Popov. Personally, I believe that learning more and more about Ian Fleming's "Bond, James Bond 007" is Excellent. I have recently viewed and absorbed, in much more detail, information on the Military Channel about specifically Dusko Popov. I have also done further research on Popov, Fleming and James Bond via Wikipedia ...plus, with many other avenues of connection (one example is the History Channel) for an even greater understanding (many other people do deserve credit, too.) ** About the other comment by planktonrules - with all due respect - he is way too critical ...sorta-like owning that 58" HD TV (very find picture display) -- Specific Subject Books are truly important -- including the many other forms of knowledge that are able to be gained. One having just a Black & White TV is still one benefit to be thankful for.
