A study in bias, 11 July 2009
Author: degarb from United States

To me, this movie is a fascinating look at bias verses perceived humor.

If you liked at least some of the Naked Gun humor, this movie delivers each minute with jokes that work, and with a large named star cameo in each scene. The humor, the entertaining star appearance, the underlying points that contain elements of truth, is undeniable, unless you are biased. The key here is not to take yourself too seriously. I think conservatives have learned how to laugh at Jay Leno, et. AL., jokes, now it is the liberals time to learn this. But, can they? Personally, I expected some balance-there was none-, and certainly didn't think all the jokes were fair. But like ALL political humor, there is truth and a point in the joke. Being a political joke, I don't expect balance or the whole truth. My gosh, for the last year, I haven't heard a single Obama joke, only jokes slamming his opponents. The lack of balance isn't good for the country.

However, like Rush Limbaugh says--and it is undeniably true-- "I am the balance, so why would my show need to be balanced?", I am not too offended there isn't any balance in the movie; it is the balance.

------- My personal views. It has been learned: never tie your beliefs to a person or party or sect, as they will always let you down and stray from the principles. Thus the flag waving of this movie, I find distasteful, as the total dismissal of every word of your enemies because you disagree with a couple things they say (Rosie joke: she discredits self with stupid arguments, they pan away from her, as she is poster child for the implausible speaker, but in back ground she starts to make sense with a good point. This I found funny, but probably escaped both left and right.) However, I totally am biased that any religion that believes in violence to prove point, only proves their god is so impotent that he requires you to force your point and unable to act himself. Thus I love the humor that points to this.

I would love to see my liberal wife watch this movie, but fear her temper tantrum and knee jerk distaste would kick in and she would not finish the movie and threaten divorce that I suggested it. However, if the movie poked fun at people with an R by their name, she would love it.
