Scott Steindorff and Dylan Russell of Stone Village Films have acquired the film and TV rights to Patrick Hemstreet’s “The God Wave Trilogy,” with plans to turn the books into a series of movies.

The producers paid six figures for the option. The first novel was published last year and the second — “The God Peak” — was released this week in which a team of neuroscientists must face the consequences of playing God when the superhumans they’ve created threaten to annihilate humanity.

“I’ve been studying the neuroscience for this book during research I’ve been doing on substance abuse recovery for the past couple years,” Steindorff said. “When I saw how true and accurate the science was in this fiction novel, I was blow away to see the human potential and spiritual element that Patrick has tapped into. I’m inspired to bring this story to big screens.”

Wish Upon movie review: be careful what movies you see about wishes you should be careful about

MaryAnn’s quick take… Simple, yet stupid. A magic box grants a teen wishes… that don’t come free. Apparently they’re not making eighth graders read “The Monkey’s Paw” anymore. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

Have you ever heard the phrase “Be careful what you wish for?” You haven’t? Then you are the only person besides Ohio high-schooler Clare, who acquires a magic box that grants seven wishes, and doesn’t seem to think there’s anything hinky going on even once way too many people around her are dying in freakish ways after she wishes to get rich — and does! — and wishes to be the most popular girl in school — and it happens! — and so on. I mean, one bizarre accident in your vicinity is weird, and two is a coincidence.

Lakeshore Entertainment Closes Deal for $250 Million Credit Facility

Lakeshore Entertainment Closes Deal for $250 Million Credit Facility
Lakeshore Entertainment Group — which has financed the “Underworld” franchise — has closed its fourth iteration of its revolving credit facility with partners recommitting to over $250 million for another five years.

JPMorgan again led the deal as sole bookrunner and administrative agent, alongside Bank of America and all existing capital partners, which provides a further five-year agreement. According to the company, the transaction never made it to the open capital markets, because Lakeshore’s current group of 10 banks all recommitted early to the new facility, most in amounts exceeding their prior commitments.

Lakeshore was launched in 1994 by CEO Tom Rosenberg. Producer Gary Lucchesi has been president since 1998. Its notable releases include “Runaway Bride,” “Million Dollar Baby,” “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “The Age of Adaline” and “The Boy.”

Sidney Kimmel Entertainment Flying High With ‘Hell or High Water’

Sidney Kimmel Entertainment Flying High With ‘Hell or High Water’
Sidney Kimmel Entertainment is shedding its usual low profile, flying high with its Texas drama, “Hell or High Water,” becoming a serious awards contender.

Jeff Bridges has received a Gotham Awards nomination for his role as a Texas Ranger tracking down a pair of bankrobbing brothers. Taylor Sheridan’s screenplay for the film that debuted in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard has also nabbed a Gotham nomination. Domestic grosses on the $12 million project have gone past $27 million for Lionsgate/CBS Films. Not bad for Ske, which seems to have found solid ground in the ever-shifting and contracting independent marketplace.

Carla Hacken, who joined the company in 2014 as president of production after stints at Fox and New Regency, admits that “Hell or High Water” — Ske bought the Black List script in 2012 — required steadfast backing from Kimmel during its development. That included shooting in 110 degree heat in the early summer.

Forest Whitaker joins Johnny Depp in Tupac/Biggie murder thriller LAbyrinth

Forest Whitaker’s already busy schedule just got even busier, as Deadline reports that he has signed on to star alongside Johnny Depp in LAbyrinth, an upcoming thriller which follows the investigation into the 1996 and 1997 murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, respectively.

Depp has been attached to the project since September and will supposedly portray Russell Poole, the real-life Los Angeles police detective who took on the case and looked for answers until his untimely death in 2015. The outlet claims that Whitaker will play a journalist that teams up with Poole; the two are set on a path that leaves them butting heads with cops, but “determined to find the truth” and “seek redemption.”

Between now and 2019, Whitaker will appear in several high-profile movies, perhaps the most notable of which being Lucasfilm’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Marvel’s Black Panther. Recently, Whitaker appeared in Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival,

Matthew McConaughey Receives Maverick Actor Tribute At Napa Valley Film Festival

The Napa Valley Film Festival is a rather unique experience in the festival realm, and they have awards/honors that don’t fit the normal mold of what people may be used to seeing. This year, Matthew McConaughey received the Caldwell Vineyard Maverick Actor Tribute in celebration of his cinematic achievements. It probably isn’t much a stretch for many to figure out that he’s among the most likely candidates for such an honor.

Prior to the ceremony, McConaughey’s highly-anticipated Gold screened for festival patrons. Matthew’s wife, Camilla Alves, Producer Teddy Schwarzman and The Weinstein Company COO David Glasser, were also in attendance. After the screening Deadline Hollywood’s Mike Fleming hosted and moderated the on-stage conversation. Matthew was joined by his wife Camilla Alves.

What’s not to love about Matthew McConaughey? In addition to proving to be an immensely talented actor, he seems like the most chill guy in the business. He’s been a fan favourite for over two decades now, making us laugh, cry, and adopt the slogan “Alright, alright, alright” into everyday conversations.

Today is his 47th birthday, and so there's no better time to look at some of our favourite of his performances. Not to mention that we'll be seeing him again twice over this Christmas, as a koala hosting a singing competition in the animated Sing, and as a man in search for gold in, you guessed it, Gold.

Gold is likely yet another entry in McConaughey’s list of recent films that typically go on to become critical and awards darlings (see Mud, Dallas Buyer’s Club,

[Review] The Whole Truth

It’s been a curious few weeks for adult fare at the multiplex. With girls on trains, autistic accountants and ex-military vigilantes, there’s no shortage of movies that your mom would love. Courtney Hunt’s The Whole Truth fits nicely into that roster, but without the bestselling book, high concept or star power to warrant being a fall tentpole. It instead resembles a film whose script has been sitting on a shelf since 1996, cast included.

Situated as standard courtroom drama fodder, the film opens on Keanu Reeves’ cynical defense attorney Richard Ramsey having a bad time. Through the confines of some unwelcome narration, we learn that he is tasked with representing Mike Lassiter (Gabriel Basso), a teenager on trial for the murder of his wealthy father and neighborhood shitheel, Boone (Jim Belushi). Ramsay is on the wrong end of what appears to be an open-and-shut murder case. He is more or less defenseless,
