"The Ropers vs. Angie" was one-part of an hour "Family Feud" I'm reviewing here
11 September 2010 | by (Baton Rouge, La.) – See all my reviews

What I'm reviewing is the first half hour of an "All-Star Family Feud" special. The casts of the TV series showcased here were that of "The Ropers" (Norman Fell, Audra Lindley, Patty McCormack, Jeffrey Tambor, Lois Areno-listed as Lois Hamilton here in IMDb) vs. "Angie" (Donna Pescow, Debralee Scott, Robert Hays, Sharon Spelman, Doris Roberts). Both were short-lived though since both those and "Family Feud" were ABC programs, this was corporate synergy at work. Anyway, host Richard Dawson mentions that the day-November 4-this show is being taped happened to be the birthday of one Will Rogers. Later on, we find out it's also that of Ms. Roberts. During the survey question rounds when Richard asks "What ruins a vacation?", Robert replies "ants" which gets a big laugh, results in a strike, and gets some mileage during the rest of the game. Of the "Ropers" cast, Jeffrey is pretty hilarious when going to the board and mentioning forgetting his name. While that cast did pretty well, it's that of "Angie" that gets on Fast Money with Debralee going on first and doing very well. Robert's answers aren't as good but he manages to get past 200 points on the fourth reply. Before I finish, isn't it fascinating to see these actors from these early short-lived series before or after their more well known work. I mean, Ms. McCormack was previously in The Bad Seed, ditto Ms. Scott in "Welcome Back, Kotter" and Ms. Pescow in Saturday Night Fever, and Fell and Ms. Lindley had played Stanley and Helen Roper on "Three's Company" before their spin-off. After "Angie", Robert starred in perhaps my favorite movie comedy Airplane!, Ms. Scott was in the Police Academy movies, and Ms. Roberts went on to "Remington Steele" and, most memorably, "Everybody Loves Raymond". Of "The Ropers" cast, Jeffrey Tambor would eventually be in two iconic series: "The Larry Sanders Show" and "Arrested Development". Okay, so like I said, this was the first part of a prime time "All-Star Family Feud" special. I'm now going to watch the next part with "The Waltons" and "The Dukes of Hazzard" casts on YouTube...
