He's been dead for three days and has no idea what to do with himself. Tosh spends time with him but he's become cold and resentful. When Torchwood detects a strange and potentially dangerous energy source at the home of Henry Parker, Owen is the best candidate to investigate. Parker is in possession of an alien device that he thinks is keeping him alive. Afterward, Owen takes to chatting to a young woman he meets on the roof who apparently wishes to commit suicide. Quotes

[first lines]
Owen Harper: My name is Doctor Owen Harper, and this is my life. A life that is full of action and violence and work and wonder. Secrets and sex and love and heartbreak and death. My death. The death I survived. The death I am now living through. Except that is isn't living. Every day is the same. I get up. Get ready for work, same as everyone else. The thing is, I'm not the same. I get to work and everyone's doing the same old thing. Babbling away about aliens and weddings. I'm not real. Three...

A satisfactory conclusion to the "Owen" arc
10 March 2008 | by (England) – See all my reviews

"A Day in the Death" concludes the Owen arc of Season 2 of "Torchwood" in a satisfactory, and unusually upbeat, manner.

Following his experience at the hands of Death, Owen is a changed man in more ways than one. This episode shows the character coming to terms with his new condition. It's another opportunity for Burn Gorman to reveal new elements of Owen's personality. There's no doubt that Harper has been on a journey since the beginning of the first season.

The episode includes an appearance by television legend Richard Briers. Briers plays a man on the edge of death with chilling realism.

8 out of 10. Another strong episode.
