Owen's been dead for three days and finds it unbearable. He meets a woman contemplating jumping off a roof and reveals that there is nothing after death. He then tells the woman how he ended up coming to the roof.
Owen is effectively no longer a member of Torchwood. Jack as replaced him as the team doctor with Martha Jones and Owen is stripped of any responsibilities. Jack tells him just to go home. He's been dead for three days and has no idea what to do with himself. Tosh spends time with him but he's become cold and resentful. When Torchwood detects a strange and potentially dangerous energy source at the home of Henry Parker, Owen is the best candidate to investigate. Parker is in possession of an alien device that he thinks is keeping him alive. Afterward, Owen takes to chatting to a young woman he meets on the roof who apparently wishes to commit suicide. My name is Doctor Owen Harper, and this is my life. A life that is full of action and violence and work and wonder. Secrets and sex and love and heartbreak and death. My death. The death I survived. The death I am now living through. Except that is isn't living. Every day is the same. I get up. Get ready for work, same as everyone else. The thing is, I'm not the same. Owen is on the edge of the building with Maggie, a young widow who want's to jump. It has been just three days since he was shot and died. Jack refuses to hire him and instead Martha is doing his job. That makes Owen jealous, and he resents Ianto because the roles have changed. Now Ianto is going on missions, while Owen makes coffee for everyone. That is until Toshiko finds an unknown source of energy and the right man for the job can only be Owen. The story about Owen continues. It was strange finding out that since he is dead, he can't eat, breath and if he cut himself like Matha explained it will never heal. He is a "glass man" or as he called himself permanently chilled, and slowly he is coming to terms that his life will never be the same.. And yet...When Toshiko comes to his apartment, they argued. He accused her that she loves him and now that he is no longer able to flirt with anyone else he can be all hers. When he told that Maggie she found that insensitive and her negative reaction sounded real. Maggie however was not a passive listener, and meeting Owen eventually changed her perspective on life. For the first time Owen helped someone to cope with the pain of loosing somebody. The scene where he runs and try to drown himself was hilarious.
