'Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars': Donate a geek toy today!

16 December 2011 12:35 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Today is 'Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars' day! This is the day where we throw on a "Star Wars" shirt and grab a geek or scifi toy or book to donate to the charity of your choice. The kicker? Mark it as a toy for a boy or a girl.

As we reported recently, this started last year with a little girl named Katie, who was teased for bringing a "Star Wars" water bottle to school. She was told that "Star Wars" was "for boys." Katie's mom, Carrie Goldman wrote a blog about it and bam! Geeks everywhere, both male and female rallied around Katie and sent toys and gifts and letters of support.

Goldman decided to start "Wear Star Wars, Share Star Wars," so that other kids could benefit from the outpouring of geek love and support for girls who love the genre. So today, in honor of Katie, »

39th Annual Annie Award Nominee's Announced

5 December 2011 3:47 PM, PST | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

I'm a huge fan of animation, animated films are getting better and better. Not only is the look and animation getting ridiculously awesome, but I find that many of these animated films actually have incredibly good stories. Not all of them are good though, for example, Cars 2 and Rio sucked. It will be interesting to see who ends up taking home the awards this year. Out of the movies on the list that I've seen and liked we have Puss in Boots, Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2. I guess it's no surprises that Kung Fu Panda 2 is leading the nominations with 9. Check out the list and let us know what your favorite animated movies of the year are!

'Kung Fu Panda 2' Leads the 2011 Annie Award Nominations

5 December 2011 8:30 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I don't put much stock in the Annie Awards and neither does Disney after withdrawing from the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood back in 2010. I have personally never found them to be a good judge of quality and as such don't pay them any particular attention, though I will pass along the information as they have announced their 2011 nominees with Dreamworks' Kung Fu Panda 2 leading the way with 12 nominations, followed by Puss in Boots and Rango each with nine. Of course, while Disney has withdrawn from the Annies that doesn't mean they aren't considered for the awards as Cars 2, Gnomeo and Juliet and Winnie the Pooh are among the nominees. Last year How to Train Your Dragon reigned supreme over Toy Story 3 and I wouldn't be surprised to see Kung Fu Panda 2 take home plenty of hardware, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, which beat out »

Meet Miley Cyrus as Adam Sandler’s Daughter in ‘Hotel Transylvania’

7 November 2011 12:25 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

When it was first announced that Adam Sandler and his friends were going to be providing the voice cast for the upcoming animated monster movie Hotel Transylvania, I didn’t panic. Even though Adam Sandler movies have been traveling on an increasingly downward slope to the point where he’s now one of the most embarrassing figures in Hollywood, and even though these are the guys who are responsible for the crime against humanity that was Grown Ups, I didn’t throw a fit. And that’s mainly because the movie is being directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, who has done pretty universally amazing animated work on things like Samurai Jack, Dexter’s Laboratory, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Surely he wouldn’t mess this movie up, right? And Sandler and his buddies won’t have near as much opportunity to goof off, throw a bunch of half-baked, juvenile crap at the screen, and »

‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Season 4 Episode 8 Preview: The General – 2 New Clips

4 November 2011 12:00 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

We’ve got two new clips from the upcoming episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, “The General”. This is the second part of the four-part Umbara story arc. Academy Award winning editor Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now, The English Patient, American Graffiti) is serving as the episode director. Story: The fierce General Krell orders Captain Rex and the clone troopers of the 501st to conquer a heavily fortified Umbaran airbase. It is absolutely essential the clones succeed, for the rest of the planetary invasion depends on it. Krell will accept nothing less than victory, but the mission seems impossible – the clones must march overland through hostile territory and monstrously advanced enemy technology. Unless the clones can use their ingenuity to counter these threats, it will be a certain suicide mission. “The General” airs at 8:00 p.m. Et/Pt Friday, November 4th on Cartoon Network.
