2 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

CBS Films is moving forward with a sequel to their 2013 comedy Last Vegas, with stars Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline expected to return.

David Diamond and David Weissman have signed on to write the script, with Last Vegas director Jon Turteltaub also expected to be back at the helm. The story will center on the four main characters returning to their hometown of Brooklyn, as they discover just how much the neighborhood has changed.

Laurence Mark and Amy Baer will return to produce the comedy sequel, although it isn't known when production may begin. David Diamond and David Weissman's writing credits include The Family Man, Evolution, Old Dogs and When in Rome.

Last Vegas, which was written by Dan Fogelman, pulled in a respectable $134 million worldwide during its theatrical run last year, including $63.9 million domestic, from just a $28 million production budget.

‘Veronica Mars’ Proves Not All Reunions Are Bad

14 March 2014 3:25 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

There’s a rare breed of television show that makes the leap into becoming a feature film. Most have been paint-by-numbers modernizations, desecrating the source material, while others are made-for-television productions that waited too long for some type of forced reunion. So what happens when Veronica Mars, a cult TV show that aired on the Upn/CW gets a second chance to say, ‘thanks’ through a crowd-sourced film, seven years after if left the air?

The fate of the Veronica Mars Movie was placed in the Mars diehards, dubbed “marshmallows” with bleeding hearts. Over 90,000 financiers banded together and raised $5.7 million, nearly three times the original goal (prompting Warner Bros. to pitch in too). Not only was that a carnival-like event on the internet, it gave hope to every TV show that was ever cancelled. I can assure each and every Kickstarter who contributed to this film that their money was well spent. »
