Watching "Family Feud: Love Boat vs. WKRP" made me appreciate how charming a game show host Richard Dawson really was
Since Richard Dawson died yesterday, I'm reviewing some of his "Family Feud" eps on YouTube. This was the first part of one of the All-Stars prime time specials of which the casts of "The Love Boat" (Gavin MacLeod, Fred Grandy, Lauren Tewes, Ted Lange, Bernie Kopell) competed against that of "WKRP in Cincinnati" (Gordon Jump, Loni Anderson, Tim Reid, Frank Bonner, Howard Hesseman). When Richard went to Gavin, MacLeod mentioned the one playing his daughter Vicki being in the audience as the camera cut to new cast member Jill Whelan who waves. When Dawson then went to Gordon, he mentioned him being on "Soap", which was also represented on the show, some time back. Bonner explained his being on crutches as a result of being in an accident from para-sailing. Anyway, "WKRP" won with Hesseman and Jump competing for Fast Money with Jump getting past 200 on his third answer. Very enjoyable show with Reid getting a little comfortable after some awkward stammering trying to say "poi" and seeing Ms. Anderson's feminine charms doing nicely with Richard doing some harmless jokes about them. Now I'll review the one where "WKRP" compete with the winners of the next round, "Real People"...
