Storyline

A posse of crooked cops, malevolent gangsters and a horde of walking dead are the centre point of this gruesome, tight, action packed, claustrophobic tale of retribution and escape. Penned like animals, on the top floor of a deserted high-rise block, these two opposing gangs find that they are not alone in the lair of bloodthirsty corridors of death. Joining forces to survive, they must reach ground level together or perish. Loaded with a bad ass attitude, guns, axes and extremely creative hand-to-hand combat sequences that project the fears and paranoia that are the fighting forces behind the need to survive, when caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nothing new to say or see!!
18 June 2010 | by (London) – See all my reviews

Zombie Films have always been the staple for low budget filmmakers and La Horde is clearly a low budget movie. That is not to say that the director does his level best to disguise the fact.

The story is nothing special. It seems to have been constructed with budget in mind so the protagonists are trapped in a derelict tower block.

The acting is generally good if a little over the top. The female lead over-acts too much and appears overly earnest in most scenes.

La Horde has a mix of the Danny Boyle type Zoom-bies and Romero's shambling Zombies. The make-ups are pretty basic with the usual contact lenses and dripping blood. The reason for the out-break is left unexplored.

The film at times loses that all-important sense of impending doom. The Zombies are too often absent from the unfolding events. This becomes even clearer in the final moments where Zombies are conspicuously absent.

The level of gore is enhanced with computer-generated imagery. As yet this technique is still unconvincing when compared with practical on-set make-ups. Few heads are blown away as our "heroes" constantly shoot at the body. By the films mid-point you would expect these characters to have learnt by experience.

So all in all a fair Zombie movie that is better than most low budget releases but with nothing really new to say or see.
