Storyline

Detective Murdoch attends a séance hosted by a medium, Sarah Pensall, where he is told the location of a recently murdered young woman. Although he believes that Pensall and those like her are all charlatans, he soon finds himself investigating the murder of Ida Winston, a prominent member of the Toronto Paranormal Society, whose body is found exactly where Pensall foretold it to be. Assisted by Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes who is in Toronto to make a speech on spiritualism, Murdoch firmly believes there is a practical solution to the murder. Those beliefs are shaken however when Pensall tells him she has a message from his late fiancée, who died of consumption over a year ago. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

Brackenreid and others refer to Doyle killing off his creation Sherlock Holmes and the author explains why. In Doyle's story. "The Final Problem" both Holmes and Professor Moriarity both fall over Switzerlan's Reichenbach Falls to their death. That story, set in 1891 and published in 1893, was written so as to allow Doyle to go back to his first love, historical novels, but, in fact, popular pressure forced the writer to resurrect the character. Spiritualism, seance information is it reliable?
28 January 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Aurthur Conan Doyle the creator of Sherlock Holmes is in this episode and wants Murdoch to join him at a occultist house who is having a seance.

Doyle says he does not believe in this stuff (which is not true) and Murdoch says he is cop and dismisses Ms Pensell's predictions. Doyle's historical background says he is involved in spiritualism.

Dr Julia Ogden the pathologist is called on the scene where Doyle and Murdoch are. A dead woman named Ida Winston was found and predicted by the psychic. Kinda fake Dr Ogden comes like she is dressed for a ball.

She mentions it was nice to meet Sir Doyle and is he in town for a spiritualist talk. Murdoch says he does not believe in psychic phenomena but writers pass him off as a Christian who only makes the Sign of the Cross to state his beliefs.

Murdoch's boss, Inspector Thomas Brackenreid invited Doyle to stick around. He is impressed by well know people.

Murdoch is troubled by the death of his girlfriend Liza who died about a year earlier. Now because Ms Pensell mentioned she knew about her "Mr religious non-believing Murdoch" goes to the psychic to get information because he is overwhelmed by visions in his mind of his girlfriend Liza and she speaks to Murdoch through the psychic. The psychic touches Murdoch's heart the way most phony mediums do. Evil spirits can give psychics correct info to get people to believe in this occult practice. Murdoch seems overwhelmed by what Ms Pensell knew.

Doyle gives his talk about spiritualism and calls religions cold and dead. He later helps Murdoch discover the source of the bullet used to kill Ida Winston and now her lover Mr Waters. Inspector Thomas Brackenreid is getting around Doyle to write a book about something. Dr Ogden talks to Murdoch about his Catholic believes and he seems to doubt the fact that their might now be something to physic information.

Murdoch seems to start believe in this spiritual stuff. The murderer is discovered through through the use of Ms Pensell's skill.

My beliefs is people have to accept the fact that there is one life and Jesus wants us to make him our choice while we are living. Spirits beyond are in another world and not necessarily from a loving God.

When you have the Holy Spirit a person may get feelings about things that are good and bad but it is not like these visions of dead people talking to you.
