Learn more- "The Moment of Truth" - May 27, 2008
I know we've all thought long and hard about how we spend our leisure time. Nice to have you back.
We get a l-o-o-ong recap of the "first season" in which people spilled the messy, messy beans of their lives for all the world to see and brought "pain and devastation" to the loved ones who came to support them. They "opened wounds so deep it seemed they'd never be able to heal." Gosh, this voiceover guy is relishing these lines. Apparently, this summer they're turning up the heat. Here come the flames of "truth."
Not Marky Mark tells us that tonight the only thing that separates a person from $500,000 is 21 questions and their ability to tell the truth.
Contestant #1: Curtis Frank, a 28-year-old gold broker from Arizona. He's natty in a jacket complete with pocket square.
He's confident that he'll be able to tell the truth. Not Marky Mark explains there are six levels of questions and the higher you go the more money you win. You can leave at any time with the money you've won but once you hear a question you have to answer it and if you're caught lying, wah-wah-wah, you lose it all.
Curtis' Cheeleading squad: Marie his mom, Aurora his girlfriend, Cody his little brother, John his friend.
Level one: Six questions for $10,000
Question #1: When walking past a mirror do you usually stop to check yourself out? Answer: Yes (True)
Question #2: As an adult have you ever put on make-up before going out for the night? Answer: Yes (True)
Question #3: Have you ever watched more than a single minute of gay pornography? Answer: Yes (True) Mom looks uncomfortable.
Not Marky Mark reminds friends and family that they can whack the button in front of them to kill a question and move on to another but they can only use it once.
Question #4: Have you ever been attracted to one of your male friends? (BREAK) John is a little concerned. Answer: No (True)
Question #5: Have you ever attended a church function solely to pick up a woman? Answer: Yes (True)
Question #6: Do you tell your friends intimate details about the women you date? Aurora says he says he doesn't, as his little brother fails to hide a grin looking to the ceiling. Answer: Yes (True) Aurora and Mom don't look happy.
Ding! Ding! Ding! He wins $10,000
Level Two: Five questions for $25,000. Will he risk it? Why yes he will.
Question #7: Would you be able to pay your mortgage if your mother cut off your allowance? Answer: No (True)
Question #8: Have you ever felt like you were a burden to your family? Marie calls it a heavy question. Answer: Yes (True)
Not Marky Mark offers him an out. He says let's keep going.
Question #9: Have you ever knowingly passed a counterfeit bill? Answer: Yes (True) Mom is disappointed.
Curtis tells us about the family furniture business started by his late father and now run by his mother and some of his brothers.
Question #10: Have you ever had sexual relations with a woman inside your family's furniture store? (BREAK) Answer: Yes (True) Mom really looks disappointed. Aurora is shaking her head in disgust. And there goes the business at that store. Mom says she is quite shocked. His brother thinks it's hilarious.
Not Marky Mark warns him the next question might cause Curtis' mother to lose respect for him and again offers him an out. He keeps going.
Question #11: Have you ever told someone you'd been tested for a sexually transmitted disease, when, in fact, you hadn't? (The real question is was he tested for it before he had sex in her furniture store?) Answer: Yes (True) A few people actually boo. Aurora has tears in her eyes.
Ding! Ding! Ding! He wins $25,000.
Not Marky Mark asks him if he wants to continue. His buddy says to keep going. Mom looks uncertain. But since the endless teasers have shown us questions we haven't seen yet, it's no surprise Curtis keeps going.
Level Three: Four questions for $100,000
Question #12: Have you ever suspected your friend John of making a pass at your former girlfriend Aurora? (Did they break up during the last commercial break?) (BREAK) Answer: Yes (True) John is all "dude." And then says it is what it is. He says it's shocking having his best friend accuse him. Aurora says he's never made a pass at her, just that they get along and that they hang out.
Question #13: Have you ever stolen money from the family business? John hits the button for mom.
Question #13 part 2: Did you ever purchase alcohol for your brother Cody when he was under the legal drinking age? Answer: Yes (True). Cody applauds. Not Marky Mark calls underage drinking no laughing matter.
Not Marky Mark warns him again, especially since he knows the questions and how personal they're going to get. Cody urges him on. Curtis worries about being greedy and then goes on. Again the teasers have told us he will.
Question #14: Do you secretly want to get back together with your girlfriend Aurora? (BREAK) Answer: Yes (True) Aurora smiles but we have a feeling that smile is going to fade shortly. He calls her a wonderful girl. She says the break-up was mutual and she doesn't know if they'll get back together. Curtis sagely foreshadows: "It depends on Question 15." Side note: Mom kinda looks like the Snapple lady.
Question #15: While you were dating your former girlfriend Aurora, did you ever cheat on her? (BREAK) Aurora does't think he did. Answer: Yes. (True) Aurora says she needs to walk out, is embarrassed, and starts to tear up. Mom the Snapple lady looks down.
Hilarious Aside: John leans over to Cody, apparently unaware of all the mikes on and around him and says "this is not good. Our night of partying has just gone down the tubes."
Not Marky Mark offers Aurora tissue and apologizes for making her tear up. And tells Curtis sometimes it's better to take the short money and run on this show. Everyone counsels him to stop except Aurora who is clearly not talking to him anymore.
Ding! Ding! Ding! He wins $100,000 and wisely quits.
