Movie Review: Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds sneak only a little fun into The Hitman’s Bodyguard

The Hitman’s Bodyguard, which bears the tagline “Get triggered” and is essentially a dumber, tackier Midnight Run, was destined to be one of those Neanderthalic, faux-merican EuropaCorp action movies, like The Transporter or From Paris With Love—except fate fumbled, and the film ended up as a coasting-on-star-power Hollywood programmer directed by The Expendables 3’s Patrick Hughes. At least it manages to be sort of amusing. Ryan Reynolds plays the Robert De Niro role, only instead of being a prickly, Sinatra-belting bail bondsman and former Chicago cop who’s still hung up on his ex-wife, he’s a finicky, Ace Of Base-yodeling bodyguard-for-hire and former CIA agent (aren’t they all?) who’s still hung up on his ex-girlfriend. We’re introduced to him living in one of those glass modernist shoeboxes that all of today’s elite big-screen gunmen seem to live in, until one pesky

Life On The Line Review

John Travolta used to be an A-list actor with an ongoing string of hits, but he hasn’t headlined a major Hollywood production since 2010 action film From Paris with Love barely broke even at the domestic box office. Ever since, Travolta has received steady work from lower-profile outings that typically receive limited, if any, theatrical release before debuting on video-on-demand. Already this year, the Oscar-nominated star of classics like Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction has appeared in action thriller I Am Wrath and Western In a Valley of Violence, alongside Ethan Hawke. Now, he leads his third 2016 release with Life on the Line.

The film centers on a team of linemen, the workers responsible for repairing power lines and maintaining the electrical grid. Travolta stars as Beau, the grizzled veteran of the group and uncle to orphaned niece Bailey (Kate Bosworth), who finds herself at a romantic crossroads with

New Set Snaps From Marvel's The Punisher Provide A First Look At Amber Rose Revah As Dinah Madani

Earlier pics from the set of Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil spinoff, The Punisher, have mainly featured Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle), but this time we get a first glimpse of a couple of the show's supporting characters. It was previously announced that Amber Rose Revah (House of Saddam, From Paris with Love) would be playing a "highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent" named Dinah Madani, and here we see her alongside The Knick actor Michael Nathanson, who has not yet been officially named as a cast member. From the looks of these images, however, there's a good chance he'll be playing a colleague of Madani's. The pics are copyrighted so you'll have to click Here to check 'em out.

How ‘Eyewitness’ Creator Adi Hasak Made His Own Opportunities

How ‘Eyewitness’ Creator Adi Hasak Made His Own Opportunities
When Adi Hasak visits Mipcom this week, it will be with the wind at his back. He will serve as a keynote speaker at the annual confab on the heels of the premiere of his new series “Eyewitness,” which debuts Sunday night on USA. It is the second show created by Hasak to premiere this year, following “Shades of Blue,” the Jennifer Lopez cop drama that was renewed by NBC after a successful midseason roll out in January.

It’s a triumphant moment for Hasak, a journeyman writer who has begun to carve out a niche for himself as a bridge between the international and U.S. television businesses — and done so without traditional backing such as an agent or U.S. studio deal.

“I went to Mipcom for the first time I think three years ago,” Hasak says. “And I just started going from booth to booth. No one knew who I was. The

‘I Am Wrath’ Review

Stars: John Travolta, Christopher Meloni, Rebecca De Mornay, Amanda Schull, Sam Trammell, Doris Morgado, Luis Da Silva Jr., Patrick St. Esprit | Written by Yvan Gauthier, Paul Sloan | Directed by Chuck Russell

Anyone remember From Paris With Love? Director Pierre Morel followed up the 2008 Liam Neeson hit Taken with a similarly enjoyable, although less critically well received, action movie in 2010 which starred a shaven headed John Travolta as Charlie Wax. And while it was less successful and entertaining than Taken, From Paris With Love was still good fun.

So in theory then, given Travolta is – or at least was – capable of convincingly taking part in a action movie I had reasonable expectations for his latest film I Am Wrath. And then there’s the crew involved: directed by Chuck Russell whose past works include Eraser, The Mask, and The Blob; and starring Rebecca De Mornay and Christopher Meloni, I honestly thought

Forecast: Will 'Insurgent' Top 'Divergent'?

Forecast: Will 'Insurgent' Top 'Divergent'?
The second installment in the Divergent series hits theaters this weekend, and should easily take first place ahead of Cinderella.Meanwhile, The Gunman and Do You Believe? will likely battle for third place with less than $10 million.Opening at 3,875 theaters, The Divergent Series: Insurgent reaches theaters exactly a year after its predecessor. That movie opened to $54.6 million, held well, and closed with $150.9 million. That wasn't at the same level as the first Twilight movie*much less the first Hunger Games movie*but it was still a strong result for a young-adult adaptation.Marketing for Insurgent has positioned it as an intense, action-packed sci-fi thriller, which is noticeably different from the first movie's sci-fi romance sell. There's also been an emphasis on the movie's visual effects sequences, which seem to be more significant this time around. All of this gives off the impression that Lionsgate/Summit is trying to broaden the
