Barry Levinson to Direct Jennifer Lopez NBC Drama ‘Shades of Blue’

6 October 2014 2:23 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Barry Levinson has boarded NBC’s Jennifer Lopez drama series “Shades of Blue.”

The director will help develop the show that revolves around a single mother and FBI agent working undercover on an anti-corruption task force. Levinson will serve as exec producer and direct the first episode of the series, which earned a straight-to-series pickup from the Peacock in February.

Production is set to begin next summer in New York. Adi Hasak (“From Paris with Love”) created the series for Universal TV, Ryan Seacrest Prods. and Lopez’s Nuyorican Prods.

“Adi has written a police drama that gets into the fascinating dirt behind law enforcement with a female character we haven’t really seen before,” Levinson said.

Levinson is no stranger to NBC. He and partner Tom Fontana spearheaded NBC’s much-praised police drama “Homicide: Life on the Street” from 1993-99.

Pierre Morel Has Taken On ‘Victor The Assassin’

9 September 2014 11:34 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The folks over at Studiocanal have acquired the rights to the ‘Victor The Assassin’ book series. Written by British novelist Tom Wood, the series currently stands at four books, the first being ‘The Killer’ or ‘The Hunter’ as it was titled in the UK. Victor is an assassin with no surname, no history, and who prefers to live alone and get the job done. The series has become immensely popular and now it looks as though he’ll be heading to the big screen.

Pierre Morel, who has flexed his action muscles with District 13, Taken, and From Paris With Love, as well as the upcoming The Gunman, will helm the first installment of the series. It will also see Studiocanal, Morel, and the producers of The Gunman reunite, which suggests a good working relationship that’s always a plus.

'Taken' Director Pierre Morel to Direct 'Victor the Assassin' Adaptation

8 September 2014 5:47 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Since revitalizing and reshaping the career of Liam Neeson with Taken, director Pierre Morel hasn't really done much to write home about. There was From Paris with Love, which had its moments, but it was hardly a success. There's a chance he might deliver something cool with The Gunman, starring Sean Penn, which arrives in February of 2015, but we can't be sure since we've yet to see a trailer. But the film must have gone well since THR reports Morel is reteaming with its producers, Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman from The Picture Company, for an adaptation of Tom Wood's Victor the Assassin book series. More below! Studiocanal is behind the project that will adapt The Killer (or The Hunter in the United Kingdom), the first book in the series, for the big screen. Not unlike Jack Reacher or Jack Ryan, the book series follows the same character: Victor, »

'Victor the Assassin' Movie Gets 'Taken' Director Pierre Morel

Taken filmmaker Pierre Morel has signed on to direct The Killer for StudioCanal, an adaptation of Tom Wood's (a.k.a. Tom Hinshelwood) novel of the same name.

StudioCanal has acquired all of the novels in Tom Wood's Victor the Assassin series, with The Killer set to be the first adaptation. The book centers on an assassin with no last name who is double-crossed after an assignment in Paris, as he is chased around the world by intelligence agencies, rival assassins and the authorities.

No screenwriter has been attached to adapt the novel, but the adaptation will be produced by The Picture Company's Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman, who produced Pierre Morel's upcoming movie The Gunman starring Sean Penn. Sentient Entertainment's Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin are also producing.

Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman previously worked with StudioCanal on their action-thriller Non-Stop and The Gunman, »

Forecast: 'Other Woman' to Take Down 'Captain America' This Weekend... >

24 April 2014 4:30 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

With the Summer movie season around the corner, the final weekend of April has three fairly modest movies reaching theaters. The Other Woman has the best chance of beating three-time champion Captain America: The Winter Soldier, though holdover Heaven is for Real might also contend for the top spot. Meanwhile, Brick Mansions and The Quiet Ones probably won't reach $10 million. At 3,204 locations, comedy The Other Woman should see solid attendance from female audiences. The movie stars Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton as three women who team up to get revenge on the man who has been sleeping with all three of them. Diaz is easily the biggest star of the bunch, and has a decent track record in comedies like Bad Teacher ($100.3 million) and What Happens in Vegas ($80.3 million). The movie's tagline nicely sums up the focus of the marketing: "The oddest friends are about to get even. »

'Lego' Obliterates '3 Days,' 'Pompeii' This Weekend

23 February 2014 12:26 PM, PST | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

For the third weekend in a row, The Lego Movie easily took first place at the domestic box office. Meanwhile, 3 Days to Kill and Pompeii both attracted little interest from moviegoers. The Lego Movie fell 37 percent to an estimated $31.5 million. That's the second-highest third weekend ever for an animated movie behind Shrek 2 ($37.9 million). Through 17 days the movie has earned $183.2 million, and Warner Bros. recently announced that they are moving ahead with a sequel (currently scheduled for Memorial Day 2017). In second place, 3 Days to Kill opened to an estimated $12.3 million. That's a bit lower than The Family, which was the last collaboration between Relativity Media and French producer Luc Besson. It is at least a minor improvement over recent EuropaCorp outings like Colombiana ($10.4 million) and From Paris with Love ($8.2 million). More so than other Besson productions, 3 Days to Kill seemed like a close relative to 2009 hit Taken: both movies »

Film Review: Stereotypical ‘3 Days to Kill’ Tonally Uneven

21 February 2014 1:14 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – As a director, Kevin Costner comes across as a patient guy who waits for the right material to come along. Considering the last movie he helmed is a little over ten years old (“Open Range”), one might also consider him picky too.

As an actor, it feels like Costner woke up one recent morning and thought, “Hey, I should do a handful of movies in a row. I’m not getting any younger!”, which is why we had that “Jack Ryan” movie last month, “3 Days to Kill” this month and next month’s “Draft Day”, with two more movies still on their way this year. Hopefully he’s planning on taking 2015 off entirely.

Rating: 2.5/5.0

It might help McG, the director of “3 Days to Kill”, to take a cue from Costner the director. Here’s a guy who definitely needs to choose his next project wisely. Granted, the man born »

Box Office Predictions: The Lego Movie Will Be Awesome x3

This weekend should belong to newcomers “3 Days to Kill” and “Pompeii,” but considering neither got much of a promotional push, “The Lego Movie” will come out on top yet again. “3 Days to Kill” could wind up being “From Paris with Love” all over again for Luc Besson. Should that be the case, it’ll kick off its run with just about $9 million. As for “Pompeii,” that one might follow in the footsteps of one of Paul W.S. Anderson’s latest releases, “The Three Musketeers.” “Pompeii’s” got a little less competition than “Three Musketeers” did back in October of 2011 when it faced off against “Paranormal Activity 3,” so it  [ Read More ]
