The young couple are in love, but her father disapproves, as fathers always do. The lovers come up with a scheme: he will disguise himself as a tramp and they will tell her father he rescued her, and they will be wed. However, he is kidnapped by two tramps, one of whom takes the lover's place in the scheme.
It's one of those comedies that strain the credulity: first, that this will result in marriage; second that she can mistake this tramp for her lover.
