Not terrible, but I wish it focused more on the Jims instead of their locations

Warning: Spoilers
I was very impressed with this movie, but I've got a couple of gripes.

I really, really wish that the movie focused more on the Jims themselves instead of where they live. Most of the scenes where he traveled TO the different people named Jim were far, far too short and didn't tell us anything about them as a person other than "original Jim gets along really well with everyone".

For example, the meeting with Scottish Jim. They meet, speak for about two minutes, then it's off to sight see. For the rest of the Scotland scene, they are simply making fun of driving on the opposite side of the road, roundabouts, haggis, kilts and bagpipes, and how Jim from L.A. is bad at all of them. I learned nothing about Jim from Scotland except that he had the same name as Jim from L.A. - which would be fine, but the entire point of the movie is to learn about the people named Jim Killeen, and that was lacking.

The same thing happened with most of the other Jims as well. Jim from Denver was simply a short scene with a bit of gambling and a couple shots from the Swinger's party. Jim from Australia was penis and kangaroo jokes, then a football game.

Overall, the movie was decent. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't awful. It's definitely worth a watch, but don't expect this to be about the Jims as people like it tries to present itself.

Good idea turned so-so
viqous23 September 2009
Being a fan of good documentaries, I jumped at a chance of seeing Google Me, and the idea is sound. The lead character googles himself, and then travels and meets with all the persons that share his name. The main Jim is however not a great persona to front such a search. When you've seen a couple of good, character delving movies (King of Kong, Maradona by Kusturic, Touching the void aso..) this.... lets say fails to live up to the mark.

The Jims visited are diverse and there are a lot of touching points that would be interesting to talk about, but this movie fails "dive in", a traffic-planner in Scottland is rushed past to make fun of haggis, and this is repeated in most cases. Until we get to the last Jim, which is the creator (!) and I don't know in minutes but it feels like the longest and the only one taken seriously. The lasting impression is that the movie and other Jims are an excuse to talk about Jim.

This movie is not for you, it's for Jim.

Great movie. Not what I expected.
babymangler6914 September 2009
I watched this film expecting it to occupy about 2 hours of my life that I didn't care about. At the end I was laughing and was pleased that a seemingly average guy like the movies creator Jim Killeen was able to "low budget" his way into a great piece of meaningful entertainment. Another fine example of human intelligence and quality movie making. I found I actually cared about each of the Jim's, something that Hollywood is usually unable to muster in me. Some of their lifestyles weren't easily accepted but it is a great example of tolerance. I give it an 8 because its fresh and funny and its soulful.. none of which you will find in this summers GI Joe movie.

I'm feeling lucky

"Google Me" is one hell of a documentary. It's a very unique movie involving one of the most visited websites every single day, Google. It's witty filmmaker, Jim Killeen has an interesting take on life. Plus he has a funny partner by his side.

The film follows the life of Jim Killeen, a 38 year old man who feels he has done nothing in his life and feels he is reaching midlife crisis level. He does the unthinkable and simply Googles himself.

He decides to get in touch with everybody he found on the search by calling them and meeting with them in their home town. With over 26 people found with the name Jim Killeen, he only got in touch with a certain number since most didn't have their location listed. And even out of the certain number, some rejected.

The documentary really makes you feel that you are not alone and that you are different in your own way. Just because you have the same name. Everyone has a different personality, and it's up to you to find it.

The thing I like most about this movie, as it's one movie that you cannot copy or remake in any way. If someone else tries to do this it will have to be a direct copy. There's no way you can make this movie fresh and new. You have to take elements of Jim's work.

A movie that is without a doubt one of the best documentaries. And one of the movies that has a many morals and themes.

The one I find the most helpful and heartfelt is. You may have the same name, but the personalities, will always be different.

Creative & Fun

Warning: Spoilers
Awesome idea, impressive execution! It was cool to see Jim come up with an original idea & connect with people around the world that shared his name to meet, hangout & exchange ideas in person courtesy of finding them through a search engine. It shows a side of humanity long forgotten by people sitting behind screens the majority of their lives today. Its so rare to have any human interaction these days that it reminds us that we aren't all zombies plugged into computers & there are still some people out there that can form bonds & have fun together. The other interesting part was the lengths they went through to travel around the world to participate in the project as well as opening up to complete strangers to share their lives with the rest of the world in a positive way. Its a rare film to experience & well worth seeing.
