Goofs for
W. (2008/I) More at IMDbPro »

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When W. is watching a College World Series baseball game, the commentator announces the Longhorns going up 1-0. The video shows the University of Miami (FL) Hurricanes scoring a run.

  • Continuity: In one shot, Laura Bush's shoulders are bare. In the next shot, she is wearing a nightie.

  • Continuity: In the scene where President Bush and Vice President Cheney are having a lunch meeting, the level of cola in President Bush's glass never changes, even though he takes several drinks from the glass throughout the scene.

  • Factual errors: During the fraternity hazing, someone asks W. if he is a legacy. W. replies that his father and grandfather were Delta Kappas. W's grandfather, Prescott, was in Zeta Psi.

  • Anachronisms: The speech writers write W's 2002 State of the Union Address on Macintosh computers. From the Spotlight icon in the top right of the screen, the Macs are running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, released April 29, 2005.

  • Anachronisms: In the scene with the speech writers in June 2003, prior to going to war with Iraq, the PC in the background shows a Windows Vista desktop. Vista was released in January 2007.

  • Anachronisms: In boardroom meeting regarding Iraq, set in 2002, Aquafina bottles on the table have a design from 2005.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Due to his past history of alcohol abuse, President Bush quit drinking in 1986. Bush is seen drinking beer during his presidency, specifically during the "pretzel choking" scene and while watching baseball at the end of the film. He is actually drinking O'Doul's a non-alcoholic beer. However, when Bush Sr. is elected President in 1988, a perturbed W. is drinking "Near Beer."

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Cheney says "Atta met Saddam's intel chief in Czechoslovakia." Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993, ten years earlier.

  • Anachronisms: In several scenes set in 2001-2002, several Dr. Pepper bottles have 2008 logos.

  • Factual errors: In the 1991 Gulf War scene with George H.W. Bush, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (VJCS) is portrayed as an U.S. Air Force General, however at the time, the VJCS was a U.S. Navy Admiral.

  • Factual errors: At several points, real-life quotes from George W. Bush are used in very different contexts. For example, he is shown saying "Rarely is the question asked 'Is our children learning?'" during his Texas gubernatorial run. He actually said it in January 2000.

  • Continuity: In the scene where George W. Bush holds the speech about uranium in Africa, the TV shows some scenes from the actual speech. The real Dick Cheney is shown, though he is played by Richard Dreyfuss in the movie.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Someone mentions that Laura Bush voted for LBJ. He ran for president in 1964, when Laura was 18. The voting age was 21 until 1972, so Laura could not have voted before 1968.

  • Factual errors: While W. is watching a sports report in 2004, the anchor gives the score of Ohio State vs. Kansas in the Fiesta Bowl, and states that it was the national championship. The championship game that year was LSU vs. Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl. Ohio State played Miami (FL) for the the title the previous year.

  • Continuity: At Bush's 40th birthday party, when the cake is finally rolled out, the candle on the right is not lit. When it cuts (almost instantly) to the wait staff putting the cake on the table, it is lit.

  • Anachronisms: In the scene where George W. Bush and his father are walking on the Texas Rangers baseball field in 1990, W. mentions that it was a mistake to have traded Sammy Sosa. However, by the end of the 1990 season Sammy Sosa had hit only 23 career home runs and no one could have known at that point that he would go on to hit over 600 in his lifetime.

  • Continuity: A scene in 1988 in George Bush Snr's Vice-Presidential office shows them discussing him becoming a "born again" Christian. When Karl is leaving, in the first shot he walks past W, who is holding the door, and is almost out of the office. Then in the next shot he is back by his chair and again walks past W and gives him a VCR.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): (At 1:48) At the lunch CIA Director George Tenet is mistakenly referred to as "Tenant".
