Storyline

In Dublin, an American tourist, guidebook in hand, enters the Hairy Bowsie, and asks if this is the rendezvous point for the heritage tour. At the bar is Denny O'Reilly, who disparages the guidebook and tells the Yank the true history of Ireland. He starts with the ninth century Vikings, discusses the Normans with their long bows and walls, gets to the English, who rebuild the walls, touches on the famine, and arrives at the twentieth century. The 1916 uprising prompts an aside about beer, which Denny has been consuming since the Yank entered the pub. It's on to independence, the not-so-swinging 60's, and Irish sex shops. The publican hands the Yank the bill for Denny's drinks. Written by <jhailey@hotmail.com>
