Storyline

Little Betty Emerson one day finds herself an orphan. Her father has been killed in an accident and the shock unseats her mother's reason. The authorities send the child to an asylum. A year goes by and then a wealthy widow, Mrs. Blake, childless and longing for companionship, calls at the asylum. She is immediately attracted to Baby Betty and adopts her. About ten years later Mrs. Emerson is discharged from the insane asylum totally cured. She returns to her old home and is informed that her child has been placed in an asylum. At the asylum she learns, by strategy the name of Betty's foster-mother. She calls upon Mrs. Blake and begs her to give her back the child. Mrs. Blake has learned to love Betty as a daughter and demurs. Into this scene of the two mothers, Betty enters. Both women plead with her, one to return and the other to stay.
