Storyline

Attracted by the money being offered, Allison goes against her better judgment and agrees to work for her one time nemesis, defense attorney Larry Watt. The case involves John Edgemont who has been charged with murdering his wife. Allison is concerned that he may in fact be guilty and her initial dreams indicate that he may have been involved. As she gets more information on the case however, especially about one of Edgemont's two daughters, she realizes that there is a far more complex knot to untangle. Written by garykmcd

Open-ended Dead End
28 October 2009 | by (Finland) – See all my reviews

This episode starts promisingly with yet another "trick" dream - this time Allison and her daughters are in a silent movie. The dedication to authenticity is admirable: fake scratches, overacting that mimics the real overacting in silent movies, and even a correct aspect ratio for the era of silent movies (roughly 4:3 instead of 16:9 for the rest of the episode). However, that (and the ever-reliable William Sadler) are just about all that is worthwhile in this episode.

You see, Sadler plays a man who first stages a car accident to cover the truth (or what he believes is the truth) that her mentally handicapped daughter had an episode during which she killer her mother with a statue. By the time Allison gets involved in the case, the car accident has been ruled out and in order to protect her daughter, Sadler's character is remaining silent and about to face a trial for murder. But...

The "twist" here is that dear daddy doesn't know it was her other, mentally disturbed daughter (no luck with the children in that family), who really killed dear mommy and told her "slow" sister to take the blame because daddy would protect her. In the end, Allison finds out the truth and that the disturbed daughter has also, in the past, caused harm to their nanny (or whatever, I didn't care by this point), for which the "slow" sister also took the blame. Allison can't prove anything, so she declares that she'll be "watching" (or whatever, again I did not care by this point) the disturbed sister in the future.

So this is an open-ended episode which leaves us at the point where: 1) Daddy is going to get sentenced, 2) Allison is on to the disturbed daughter's manipulations, 3) the story really has nowhere to go (is anyone likely to believe that the next time someone connected to the girls gets hurt or killed, the most likely suspect is *not* the mentally "fully capable" sister since there pretty much are no other suspects left?), and 4) we don't care to see a follow-up since there is no point to it.

This was the 65th episode. At the time of writing, 102 episodes have aired in the USA, and no follow-up has appeared. With *my* psychic powers, I foresee that no follow-up will *ever* appear.
