The Making of Hatchet (2007)

*** (out of 4)

Fans of HATCHET should enjoy this 25-minute making of featurette that can be found on the film's DVD. Director Adam Green, producers Sarah Elbert & Cory Neal, Fangoria writer Ryan Turek and cast members including Kane Hodder, Robert Englund and John Carl Buechler are interviewed about the making of the film. Green and Elbert start off talking about how they got the film financed, which was basically them creating a teaser trailer, which got popularity on the internet and soon they had the money for the entire production. From here we learn about the origins behind the story, the casting of the horror legends and then we get all sorts of behind-the-scenes information from the set. Fans of the movie should enjoy all of these stories and especially the stuff dealing with how the film got finances. Also interesting to see is the sequence where Green is on the phone talking to Robert Englund who agrees to do the film. Just seeing Green's reaction was rather priceless. We also get to take a look at the post-production work where the director and producers talk about the other issues that came up. Overall this is a pretty well-detailed look at the making of a low-budget movie.
