Guts & Gore: The FX of Hatchet (2007)

*** (out of 4)

Another nice featurette on the HATCHET DVD. This one takes a look at the special effects from John Carl Buechler who is also on hand talking about some of the kills as well as the creation of Victor Crowley. Kane Hodder and director Adam Green are also on hand and it's clear that all three wanted to skip the CGI stuff and instead deliver the type of gore and magic tricks that were so popular in the horror films of the 80s. The featurette gets us inside the make up trailer where we get to see some of the kills being created but the one sequence that will really make fans happy is when we see Hodder getting into his outfit. Buechler mentions that they wanted Crowley to rival Jason and while it's doubtful that will ever happen it's still interesting getting to see all the work behind-the-scenes. Fans of HATCHET will certainly enjoy this one.
