Like an overlong TV commercial.

A solid premise, flawed execution.

Perhaps more could have been achieved without the overacting. Sure, it's the end of the world - of sorts - but that's hardly an excuse to have the whole cast do fifth-rate impersonations of third-rate clowns like Jerry Lewis (or any seventh-rate French comic). The dance number was idiotic and unfunny. "When in doubt, make the main character(s) dance a bit." (An excerpt from the Manual For Lazy Writers Who Make Short Films For About One Dozen People).

The ending is predictable: the mysterious machine breaks down. Eternal night. The title's lame word-play prophecy fulfilled. Yawn.
