Classic TLC
k_rae_rae11 December 2020
Trash TV but darn is it entertaining. It's TLC what more do you expect? But on a serious note, as sad as it is, this story of two morbidly obese sisters motivates me to eat healthier and stay active.

Honest opinion

It's not as bad as people are saying.. Yes it is disgusting to watch, but it's motivating me to eat better myself so there are positive takeaways from it, I also weirdly find it entertaining..

It's trash, but I enjoy it
bartkow28 March 2023
Sometimes I want mindless entertainment. And this does it for me. I have some silly investment in seeing the sisters succeed, better themselves, and some wacky stuff along the way. I like Chris a lot as he seems like a good honest man. The family I think is a product of their environment and it is so different from man that I enjoy it every week. It's not everyone's cup of tea and I can't say whether it is a negative reality to show on television but it is popular enough that I can't see it going anywhere any time soon unless Michael and Amy's divorce puts a huge handcuff of the filming. Cheers.

Tammy is very selfish
dolliesplace29 November 2021
Amy has been looking after Tammy and Tammy is such an ungrateful person. She is so rude to Amy. I have a hard time watching because of tammys behaviour towards Amy.

Amy is a very caring sister and has done her best for Tammy. But Tammy is such an ingrate. She needs to do things for herself and maybe she will appreciate all that Amy does for her. If I was Amy I would stop helping her Let her fend for herself.

It's hard to rate this type of show
katjoeus4 March 2022
As others have said, it's totally trash TV (possibly exploitative, but I'm not convinced on that part). But it's also strangely addictive, and isn't that what makes good TV? It's definitely not Arthaus and I'm sure it has not aspirations to be. I don't agree that they are all simpletons - the other sisters and especially the brother seem alright to me, actually really nice and likeable, esp. The brother. So yeah, I will keep watching!

Heart warming.

Warning: Spoilers
Other reviewers aren't even reviewing the show or episode by episode, they're just criticizing these women. I sat down and watched. They're spunky and silly but they do try their best, at least Amy did from start to finish. She actually accomplished so much and none of these reviews give her credit, they call her lazy but she DID IT! I found myself rooting for her and hoping the best. Tammy however dampened much of the show with her unwillingness and constant excuses. Please stop hating on them and realize that they're Trying.

Absolutely LOVE everyone on this show except ONE person.
DibZim198213 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I first want to say, that I do like this show, and Amy, Chris, Amanda, and Misty are HILARIOUS and seem like super nice people.

However, there is one person who is the other main protagonist (or perhaps antagonist) of this show, and she is Tammy. She was sort of mean in Seasons 1 and 2, but she was still overall okay. But this third season? She is absolutely HORRIBLE. The way she treats her family (especially Amy) is absolutely disgusting and NEVER thanked them for anything even though they do everything for her. For example, her family literally got her an electric scooter, so she is able to move around much better and faster instead of someone pushing 700 lbs on a wheelchair, and she is STILL ungrateful and rude!

I also noticed that Amy has lost A LOT of weight and almost does not even look like the same person from Season 1. But Tammy? She keeps gaining weight and making excuses to the doctors on why she is not losing the weight. It seems like she just does not care about improving herself at all and is just a SUPER lazy person.

All I am going to say is, I am VERY disappointed at Tammy for not trying at all while gaining weight and treating the people who love her badly. I will say that I hope she one day wakes up and realizes how horrible she has been as a person and truly try to improve herself.

Huge Societal Cost

There is a huge societal cost involved in deriving profit by glamorizing obesity and mental illness.

Hillbillies losing weight
shaeylutzow8 September 2022
This is a show about hillbillies losing weight but I feel for Amy because she at least is trying. Everybody else in the family tries to help Tammy, and do the right things. Tammy is a manipulative cow who blames everyone else for everything and takes no responsibility. They need to make her be independent and stand on her own two feet. She needs intensive therapy on several fronts. Amy would be better off concentrating on her husband and child and their lives together.

They all seem to have a life and it shouldn't be left to Amy to deal with Tammy.

On a positive note, it's funny and entertaining. The show helps me stick to my diet.

Good show. Funny, emotional, entertaining
joshv-0404529 February 2024
I like it. But I swear after season 2, Amy cries about something in every episode. 🙄 Tammy is so stubborn, but inspirational. I love their other sisters Amanda and Misty and their brother. They definitely handle the drama better than I ever could or my sisters. And would like to hear more of Michael's thoughts on everything. Tammy and Amy definitely have grown apart after season 1. Which is understandable. I like the family gatherings. They're either really good or really bad. Reminds me of my family. Lol Everything seems to be real. Except Tammy's love life. Her past boyfriends and husband seemed forced for production.

Love everyone except Tammy actions
cralrdl11 January 2022
I love how Amy Michael have really are living their lives with their son & new announcement of a new addition. Chris & his wife are sweet and I'm so happy for Chris in his weight loss. Tammy is the laziest liar manipulative person I've ever seen. She treats the people who are the best to her like trash. She's mean to others also. It has nothing to do with her weight her actions make her non appealing I see her use people & omg if she doesn't get her way calling the cops! On her family members wow. Her siblings have had it with her as has the dr. I'm glad Amy is doing for her family & she should aunt Tammy could get a visit occasionally but I would not leave any kid along with her. Go Amy & Chris.

Motivating, but time to step in TLC
play-me-a-symphony30 January 2024
I just finished watching all episodes. TLC, we've seen enough of pain. Time for drastic positive makeovers. TLC, it's way past the time to take care of Tammy: take her to a dentist to have a couple of implants. She also needs surgeries to tighten up the loose skin. Work on her hair, and not just on chaining the color. Amy also needs a dentist. And she also needs her hair styled.

They both need some clothes and makeovers of their houses. Then get Tammy into an educational program. Get going, you can do better.

Addictive trash TV
tessasmommom28 January 2022
This show is horrible, yet I find myself watching just to get my aggressions out by yelling at my tv. Tammy is disgusting, not only because she doesn't take responsibility for her situation, but, she refuses to let anyone help her and her family is taking the brunt of her abuse. Amy did what she had to do to get her life in order, while trying to help her ungrateful sister, and Tammy just keeps blaming everyone for her overeating. And, the two men she was "involved" with, were basically two men who didn't give a damn about her, but about getting some screen time. Yet, her stupid ass believes they love her and continus to stuff her face.

These People are Fat, Dumb, Gross and Addicting
mattcavaness26 January 2022
Let's see more of Amanda, Chris, and his wife.

They are the only characters that I'm rooting for.

Are all the residents of Kentucky really this damn stupid?

No wonder Mitch (the turtle) McConnell has been a Kentucky politician for this long! Even though Tammy is thoroughly disgusting, I still think that Discovery's facilitation of her demise is very reckless.

She needs to be declared incompetent and put into a care home permanently. She's just too simple to understand how to act in her own best interests.

On the other hand this show is absolutely addicting and I will watch until the last episode (a.k.a. The one with the funeral).

weirdly funny
poppekop20 January 2024
Food addiction is quite complicated and this show does sort of make you see. Also it makes you see that you should be allowed to live and make fun and be a person even if you're obese. Most people think that when you're fat you should live to become thin, but that doesn't work and makes you depressed and eat even more. Just treat fat people as people and let them be themselves. Believe me when you're overweight you get plenty to hear from everyone about dieting, healthy ways of living, exercise. They don't need your opinion about that, they just need to be treated as a person.

Besides that, the sisters are very funny and the family interactions are good to see. How they can have the biggest row and finish with a big fart and everyone starts laughing. Even with all the rows going on, you can still see they care deeply about each other.

Hope they all make their goals!

Heartwarming and fun
purplesummer3523 February 2021
People have been knocking this show and these ladies but I personally find them to be hilarious and real. They are not afraid to be silly and be themselves. They play off of each other so well and Amy's husband is a gentle support and mediator. Yes these ladies need to lose weight! But anyone who has struggled knows that food addiction is real and it's hard to shake. I enjoy cheering Amy and Tammy on and wish them all the best. This is a great show.

Reality Check & Amanda
denisemettlen17 January 2022
The Vacation.

I never write reviews and post online with opinions and the way others live their life. BUT... Amanda is the only one that stands up to Tammy, not wanting to tolerate the disrespect. Everyone else in the family literally does nothing but excuse her behavior. She's never held, for one minute, responsible for her behavior! She is allowed, like a bully/terrible twos toddler to behave any way she wants.

For those of us who go thru extreme struggles, disabled, financially strapped, we watch episodes of Tammy ruling the roost everyday, Everyone dancing around her, giving her permission to behave so badly. But, these Vacation episodes really got me. After the last fight before she got picked up, look at her laughing and playing in the wheelchair in that parking lot. While Everyone else was upset. She is so manipulative, makes everyone feel guilty if they smile around her. Then, she comes up with all kinds of excuses why it's your fault she behaved badly. To the point Everyone is Apologizing to her for HER behavior.

Just because she's hurting and has had a hard life, doesn't give her permission to be a bully. That's no excuse!

So, sis bought a house. What does Tammy do, begins her manipulation. Drinking to the point she'll make herself so sick, making her sister feel guilty and responsible. She'll find a way to either stop the move or push her way into the house too.

Until...until...y'all stop letting her be the boss, nothing will change. Just say NO. Walk away when she behaves disrespectful. Rideshare, medical transportation is available in every state, she can find a ride with one phone call.

Don't come to her feeling sorry for her and hold her accountable. She'll stop being that way...eventually. She WILL adapt and realize how much she loves her family and appreciated all they did for her. Instead....of her controlling and manipulating Everyone else.

She'll hurt herself, makes excuses and continue being a burden to everyone. She'll never want to get better if everyone allows her to excuse her life away.

Y'all are loving her to a grave faster.

Just look at the way she behaved when Amy wanted to show her the new home. Jealous!! She's literally sucking the life out of her entire family.

(Q: why is there paneling on the walls instead of sheetrock?) Good luck!

Empathy
office-7157119 April 2021
I feel a lot of empathy for them. As they don't know better. That is how they were raised. And I think it is very difficult when you have any type of addiction. But the family must put their foot down, support her and someone needs to find a facility so that she can be monitored and helped.

I love watching this show.
flowerbloomboy21 January 2020
I've heard of the Slaton sisters from YouTube but recently started watching them from their TLC show. I usually don't write reviews on shows but I just had to write something about this one. I like how it has a comedy vibe to it and the sisters are both very likable. It's also a very feel good/inspirational show. I'm glad that this was put on TLC :)

What was I thinking of?
lroyce-4816311 February 2022
I thought at first this would be a show about women struggling with difficult, hundred pounds of weight loss as they try to get the surgery that will help them Instead, it devolves into a show displaying morbidly obese women, very much like a side show display. The show has a car wreck quality that makes it hard to turn away but to what end? Not sure what, if any lessons are to be learned.

The women are put on display airing all their dirty laundry.

Can't even call it a guilty pleasure.

I think these types of shows are pathetic and disgusting! It lets morbidly obese people to not want to change or lose weight because you can be a reality show star and make money. Help stop the obesity in this country!

I also usually hate TLC programming but...
Sjr-lane16 January 2022
It's a show about a couple of impoverished simpletons who are good people but clearly have some inner demons that lead to food addiction... I generally don't find this show exploitative like most TLC Shows and the focus really seems to be on their journey to better health (with one having a lot more success than the other at this point). It's obviously not art by any means but the whole family is really a cast of characters that make me smile every week.
