Misguided "big-deal" porn

Warning: Spoilers
The phrase "they don't make 'em like this no more" is usually a lament about past glories, but for "Corruption" it's merely an acknowledgment that the 2006 movie was a misfire -winner of many industry awards, but no longer available, not on DVD, used DVD or via streaming.

Reason why is filmmaker Bryn Pryor (aka you can call me Eli Cross, Gus Delario, or Mark Logan) was so full of himself as to include censorable material (e.g., fisting and rough sex) in a four-hour prestige, multi-DVD or Blu-Ray release package. No "Pirates" here, nothing of the sort.

Pryor even self-servingly cast himself in the lead male role, as a corrupt U. S. senator running for president who has a kinky wife (Pryor's real wife at the time Kylie Ireland in a strong performance) and a hot sex-slave nymphette mistress (Hillary Scott, earning her superstar status at the time, in spades). Also impressive in the femme cast is Alana Evans as another kinkster, the senator's assistant, given to BDSM with Hillary and some extreme dildo action when dominated by the senator. All that's missing is Golden Showers by some prostitutes -if that had been included then Donald Trump's ascendancy a decade later would have been predicted.

Feature includes a dozen XXX scenes over the course of its four-hour running time, including a completely extraneous (and quite lengthy) orgy scene at the end. It opens awkwardly with Pryor slitting his throat with a straight razor in the movie's first moments. This is just fantasy, and soon I was wishing he had actually gone through with it. Instead, his poorly-acted character persists for four hours, even having two explicit sex scenes courtesy of a body double. His dull walk-through resembles a bald version of Liev Schreiber in those obnoxious Blade helicopter commercials, except for extreme overacting in an early scene where his senator gives a speech at a party fund-raiser.

Other than damsel in distress Hillary, the only other positive character is an ill-fated newspaper reporter played by James Deen, who rescues her from bondage at one point. I liked her, disliked him.

The outbursts of gonzo, rough sex certainly would satisfy today's all-sex fanbase, but they grind the narrative to a halt. Mix of story/character-driven porn with gonzo simply doesn't work. And the dangling of forbidden content was clearly a disaster: censorship renders dissatisfaction that could have been avoided altogether with a few rewrites in the first place.

But hubris knows no bounds. And as far as corruption goes, note that Pryor used to be the boss at AVN, making his movie's many AVN awards six years after he left to shoot porn himself more than suspect. Add to that his directing the 2015 cable tv show "The Greatest Adult Movies of All Time" which included "Corruption" in the 30+ list of greatest -what a coincidence!
