A tremendous installment - gripping, intelligent entertainment

"Adam" sounds like an episode of "Stargate SG-1" on paper with familiar faces under the influence of an alien being and acting out of character. However, it's a welcome direction for the series and it shows the cast's talent.

There are some particularly dramatic moments in this tale and the normally restrained Gareth David-Lloyd is splendid as a guilt wrapped, borderline-psychotic Ianto. It's taken me a while to warm to Ianto but there's more to him than meets the eye.

Unmissable British science fiction on a shoe-string. 9 out of 10. This series of "Torchwood" is proving to be a great improvement on the (still entertaining) original.

Is it live or is it Memorex?

This episode poses an interesting question - what is real? The facts of the past or our memories? And if we have lost memories of the past, do we necessarily want them back? Gwen comes back from a holiday in Paris and doesn't recognize a member of Torchwood - Adam - who to all appearances and everyone else's memory has been with the team for a few years. The moment Adam touches Gwen, she remembers him, but forgets all about Rhys - everything about Rhys. Tosh and Adam have been a couple for a year, Owen is desperately in love with Tosh, Ianto is a psychotic killer of young women, and Jack is remembering a past he buried over 150 years ago. It's like we left Wales and landed in Oz.

Until Ianto finds his diary, which includes mentions of every member of the team - except Adam.

This was a pretty well written episode, but since my main draw to TW is the character development and not the aliens, I didn't enjoy it as much, since the characters were all turned on their ears. Still, if this turns out to be my least favorite episode of the season, it's still a great episode.

A very interesting concept

Adam was really quite a unique Torchwood episode. Captain Jack actually got some character development, which has been teased at for 18 episodes, so at least its finally happened. The set design of Jack's home planet, Boeshane Peninsula, looked visually good, and possibly the only ever good use of CGI used in Torchwood so far.

If you can remember, his name was Adam!

Before going to work Gwen and Rhys are laughing in bed, then when she arrives to work she sees Adam. When Gwen asks who Adam is, he stands up from a chair and touch her on shoulder with his left hand. That is when he implanted the false memories of himself and Gwen, talking, drinking coffee. After that Gwen hugged him like he was her best friend, saying that she knows him. Trouble began when Gwen returned home and couldn't remember Rhys. In panic, thinking he is a burglar, she called Jack to help her. When Jack appeared with Adam he recognized her boyfriend and Rhys accused him that he deleted her memory. Jack was surprised, but he told Rhys he had nothing to do with it. Owen looked like a geek. Since Adam changed his personality with false memories, for the first time we saw him in colorful clothing and not his usual black. Also his obsession with Toshiko was just simply silly. Toshiko who thought was in love with Adam, blossomed and was very cruel to Owen when he expressed his feelings. It was so unlike how she really was, quiet and shy. I did not care much about this woman who crushed mans hearts. Ianto strangely looked the same, that is until Adam set up his mind to destroy his. Jack was haunted by past memories, and by letting us know something more about him, made him even more human. But it also made him loose just a bit of that cool, mysterious persona he really is. Adam was just an alien who could only exist if he influenced others. He liked making people feel pain and had no compassion for anyone of the Torchwood team.
