Visible is about a group of Toronto high schoolers, second generation kids who must deal with racism and other people's low expectations for their future. Each of the characters has hopes and dreams beyond finding a labour job and staying there for life. Sharon wants to be a journalist yet her father is fearful and wants her to stick to more security- a nurse. Lee dreams of an artistic life as a photographer but his mother demands he do medicine, business or engineering- careers with guaranteed good incomes. Abdi deals with prejudice and bullying everyday yet remains suspect. All of them have enough working against them yet the very people who should support them - teachers and parents are the biggest bullies of all.
A realistic, thoughtful and entertaining debut, proof that despite a low budget you can produce quality work.
