'Baywatch' Movie Teams the Rock with 'Horrible Bosses' Director

23 July 2015 5:54 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief director Seth Gordon has signed on to direct Paramount's movie adaptation of the hit TV series Baywatch, which has Dwayne Johnson set to star. The actor has been attached to the project since October, when, ironically, Horrible Bosses 2 filmmakers Sean Anders and John Morris were set to direct. It is unclear at this point when production may begin, but the studio has been trying to get this project off the ground for many years.

The Baywatch movie has been in the works since July 2009, when Jeremy Garelick signed on to write and direct. A slew of writers have worked on the project between now and then, including Brian Gatewood & Alessandro Tanaka, Peter Tolan and Justin Malen. The writing team of Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay, which the studio is moving forward with.

Producers have launched a $650,000 Kickstarter campaign for a documentary on science educator Bill Nye, best known as “The Science Guy.”

David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg, who teamed on the documentary “The Immortalists,” will direct, with Seth Gordon and Nick Pampenella producing. Gordon won the Academy Award for best documentary for “Undefeated.”

Nye is the CEO of the Planetary Society, where he’s leading a mission to launch a solar-powered satellite into the cosmos and advocating for the importance of science, technology and discovery.

Donation incentives include a sneak peek of the film, in which Nye witnesses the launch of his solar sail into space, his handwritten notes from the evolution vs. creationism debate, one of his bow ties and an associate producer credit for $10,000.

Nye appeared in the live-action educational segments of “Back to the Future: The Animated Series” in which he would demonstrate science while Christopher Lloyd explained. »
