Better than 'Anaconda 3', but it's still crap., 14 March 2009
Author: slasherguyy

After last years awful Sci-Fi channel sequel 'Anaconda 3: Offspring', I had absolutely zero expectations for the fourth film. Whilst 'Anacondas 4: Trail of Blood' is surprisingly better than the third entry, it's still a crap movie with lots of flaws. It's a shame, because I enjoyed the first two movies...but after these crappy Sci-Fi channel 'sequels', I say reboot the franchise. With all these remakes coming out, I'd like to see another 'Anaconda' film with a budget, unlike these crappy Sci-Fi channel flicks.

The story is basically about dying millionaire Murdoch (John Rhys Davies), hiring some dude and his mercenaries to kill 'Anaconda 3' survivor Amanda (Crystal Allen). Meanwhile, she's hooked up with two cops and some guy walking around in the jungle, and 'Johnny Cage', a Z-grade Milla Jovovich and a few others are driving in front of the terribly fake green screen, which reprises its' role from the third. Throw in two escaped Anacondas which killed a scientist and you have 'Anacondas 4'.

As mentioned above, the story was pretty horrid and there were so many characters spread out across this jungle, it got confusing and I didn't really care for them. The mercenaries and the main bad guy were, just like in the third film, idiots waving guns around and trying way too hard to be intimidating. I wasn't impressed with newcomer David Olsen's writing techniques also, because he wrote the third and the fourth film, yet both of them don't feel like 'Anaconda' movies at all. Just because you mention the 'Blood Orchid' once or twice and throw in a snake, doesn't mean it feels like an 'Anaconda' film. It makes me question whether he'd even seen the first two films. The locations also sucked, with no boat or river present again, but instead some kind of army camp, green screen cars and underground tunnels.

But, surprisingly, Anaconda 4 does have a few positives about it. Crystal Allen is a very talented actress and stole the show in the third film, and she tries to work her best with crappy material again, and Linden Ashby and the Z-grade Jovovich look-alike gave good performances. I also appreciated the movie had some night scenes present, unlike the third, which was in complete daylight. I also thought the CGI on the Anacondas were much better than the third film, but they still looked ridiculously fake and almost like ancient serpents. The death scenes were fun, because they were so bad, that they were laughably fun.

Overall, 'Anacondas 4' was still a bad movie (well, what do you expect?), but it was a bit better than 'Anaconda 3'. However, they still felt nothing like the first two films, and were clearly just marketed as sequels for the money. Hopefully Sci-Fi channel doesn't make a fifth installment...because it leaves it open for a sequel *sigh*. Not recommended, but if you have to watch the third or the fourth, then the fourth is the better film...but then again, that's like comparing dog feces to human feces. As 'Jigsaw' would say: Make your choice!
