Please stop this Anaconda from regenerating ever again.
9 October 2011 | by (Edinburgh.) – See all my reviews

Shot back to back with the third movie in the series, Anaconda 4: Trail Of Blood only saves itself from a lower rating because it doesn't commit the cardinal sin of being boring. It is, however, just as bad as the previous instalment, if not worse.

A big snake gets loose again after it has been experimented on (this time it is given the power of regeneration, allowing for an extra selection of poor computer effects) and it starts to prove problematic for a lot of people. Namely, Amanda Hayes (Crystal Allen returning from the previous movie), a bunch of people who have all ended up in the snake's territory (including the most ineffectual team of killers ever assembled, by my reckoning) and the rich and dying Murdoch (John Rhys-Davies, also returning from the previous movie).

I think it's probably fair to just let writer David C. Olson and director Don E. FauntLeRoy share the blame for everything that stinks with this movie and the one before it. This outing has even less action than the third movie and fills the screen, somehow, with even more characters that we couldn't give two hoots about.

Poor Crystal Allen becomes annoying as her character is transformed into some two-handed gunslinging Ellen Ripley type able to survive any life-threatening situation while John Rhys-Davies continues to look suitably embarrassed even while enduring a LOT less screen time than most of the other cast members. Then there's poor Linden Ashby, doing a decent job with what he's given but nobody could spin gold from this lot.

The "special effects" are, once again, not very special, the flashback scenes keep occurring once more (ironically, I forgot to mention them in my review of the third movie and I think that was perhaps a self-protective mechanism by my traumatised brain) and are still ridiculous and this just piles one laughably bad moment on top of another.
