11 December 2014 4:34 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Less than one week after Roberto Orci backed away from directing Star Trek 3, Paramount is still searching for a replacement, and at least one filmmaker is campaigning for the job. Jonathan Frakes, best known to Trekkies as Commander Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, revealed that he is aggressively pursuing the project. Aside from playing Riker, Jonathan Frakes is also an accomplished director, helming the features Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection and episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.

There is even a movement on Twitter to bring him on board, with the hashtag #BringInRiker. While he admitted that it's a "longshot" that he gets the job, the filmmaker revealed in an interview with Komo News that he has reached out to producer J.J. TV Review: The Librarians

8 December 2014 10:33 PM, PST | | See recent CultureCatch news »

[Spoiler Alert: This review contains a few spoilers, though I have tried to keep them to a minimum while still making this a viable review.]

When the first made-for-tv Librarian movie appeared in 2004 (The Librarian: Quest for the Spear), I watched it simply because it sounded so silly (and I also have a fondness for magic and fantasy). The premise is a normal metropolitan library under which is hidden a magical library containing not only rare (or mythical) books and manuscripts, but historical/magical (and religious) artifacts: the Ark of the Covenant, Excalibur, Pandora’s Box, even Noah’s Ark. This library -- which exists to protects these items, as well as protecting the general public from the wrong use of magic -- is overseen by Judson (Bob Newhart) and his assistant, Charlene (Jane Curtin). They hire a librarian whose job it is to go around the world either finding magical artifacts, or preventing those artifacts from falling into the wrong hands. The librarian is chosen for a combination of the breadth of his knowledge and intelligence, »

'The Librarians' react: The weekly adventure begins

7 December 2014 8:00 PM, PST | EW - Inside TV | See recent - Inside TV news »

This post contains details from The Librarians episodes 1 and 2, which aired Dec. 7. Like its subject matter, the Librarian franchise is loaded with history. It began in 2004 with The Librarian: Quest for the Spear, a TV movie that followed librarian/adventurer Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) in pursuit of historical/magical artifacts. Two subsequent TV movies followed: 2006’s The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines and 2008’s The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice. »

TNT Considering The Librarians Ten-Episode Series, Noah Wyle to Appear

21 February 2014 11:00 AM, PST | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

I’ve said many times recently that I’m hesitant to post news about shows that are only in the development stage, because our hopes are so often dashed when the proto-shows don’t make it any further. We just had to report earlier this month about Preacher in development at AMC, and now we have equally wonderful geek-love news to share.

TVLine first broke the news that TNT is considering developing a 10-episode series based on the great The Librarian TV movies (2004′s The Librarian: Quest for the Spear, 2006′s The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mine, and 2008′s The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice) which starred Noah Wyle.

The idea is that Wyle’s character, Flynn Carsen, would select four new Librarians to work together, doing what he did: traveling the world investigating strange occurrences, battling ancient conspiracies and protecting the innocent from the dangerous, »
