Quite good but failed to include more perspectives
30 July 2014 | by (São Paulo, Brazil) – See all my reviews

Nicholson, Polanski, Towne and Evans discuss very briefly about the importance their project "Chinatown" had in film culture. They share experiences on it, some of them after reviewing the film after many years had passed. After all, this is the movie that resurrected the film noir, bringing it to a new level, with new faces and showing that the genre can seduce and thrill new audiences.

A nice documentary, the interviews, though rushed are quite good, and I loved the fact Roman Polanski was very honest about what's his favorite project was ("The Pianist" is his first, with "Chinatown" coming in second), but of the three documentaries featured in the film's DVD, this one would benefit more if they had more perspectives to include and talk about the classic's legacy. A film critic's perspective was needed or some famous fan of the movie, maybe some actor or director that had no involvement with the film, could explain the reasoning behind the adoration for this treasure of contemporary cinema. Though the fantastic four behind "Chinatown" are a respectable team who know their business well, I think the documentary would be richer if more points of view were added. Other than that, it's lovely to watch it. 8/10
