Watch ‘Dragon Age: Redemption’ with Commentary by Felicia Day

15 November 2011 3:33 PM, PST | | See recent Tubefilter News news »

The season finale or Dragon Age: Redemption dropped today. Now, if you haven’t been watching Da:r (that’s how us viewers / cool kids write it), it’s a web series-gaming crossover from BioWare, Machinima, and online video sweetheart Felicia Day. This sixth and final weekly episode, dubbed Saarebas brings the story of Day’s ‘knife eared’ Evlin assassin Tallis to a climax and demonstrates the epic live-action world Day created based on a video game. I must confess, I’m not an avid player of Dragon Age the game. I only started watching Da:r because of Felicia Day. I’m a long-time fan of her seasoned web series The Guild. But last February, when Day showed a teaser trailer of her upcoming original web series on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, that was enough to get me to tune in. Felicia Day with elf ears? Sold! Though when the »

Interview: Producer Jason Fischer talks Divine: The Series

25 October 2011 4:13 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

I recently had a chance to talk with Jason Fischer, a producer on Divine: The Series. Readers may remember that name from our coverage of the webseries in our Indie Spotlight features. For those that aren’t familiar with the series, we’ve included the plot synopsis and first episode at the bottom of the interview.

As opposed to having a smaller budget per episode and stretching out the webseries, they put a significant amount of funding into creating a 6-episode “pilot program” that gives fans a chance to get an early look at the series. The episodes will also be used to pitch Divine to various companies in order to secure funding to continue the series. With 5 episodes already released and the 6th on the way, I wanted to focus more on the business side of Divine and asked Jason about crowd funding, the reason for creating a web series versus a TV pilot, »

Joss Whedon's secret Shakespeare film adaptation

24 October 2011 12:03 AM, PDT | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

A new site, Much Ado: The Movie, has popped up online, announcing that: “Bellwether Pictures is proud to announce the completion of principal photography” on “Much Ado About Nothing: A film by Joss Whedon, based on a play”. Presumably it’s based on the play by William Shakespeare, rather than one that just happens to be called Much Ado About Nothing

The cast list includes the Whedon alums Amy Acker (Angel, Dollhouse, the upcoming The Cabin in the Woods), Alexis Denisof (Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse), Reed Diamond (Dollhouse), Sean Maher (Firefly), Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Doctor Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Clark Gregg (The Avengers), Fran Kranz (Dollhouse, the upcoming The Cabin in the Woods), and Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the upcoming The Cabin in the Woods).

It also lists the following newcomers to the Whedonverse: Ashley Johnson, Jillian Morgese, Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher (YouTube's BriTANick, »

‘Minute Physics’ Is My New Must-Watch

14 October 2011 1:47 PM, PDT | | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Is time travel really possible? Does hydrogen make a sound? Why is the universe expanding, and why is it accelerating? How does the sun actually work? Yeah… right away I knew this is my kind of series—intellectually stimulating and yet accessible and concise. One Minute Physics is one of its names, though officially known on YouTube as just Minute Physics, it quickly illustrates findings at the forefront of academic physics in a curt, breezy one-minute-plus format. The weekly series, which launched in June, comes from the hands of creator Henry Reich, a producer with an unlikely mix of Physics scholar and production veteran. And the two fields aren’t just casual interests, Reich earned two degrees in Physics, one at Grinnell College and then a Masters at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics before leaving Canada and heading to Los Angeles to go after an Mfa in Film Production at USC. »

Felicia Day's 'Dragon Age: Redemption' - Suck or Rock?

11 October 2011 12:37 PM, PDT | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Felicia Day, that redhead who has that RPG/comedy webseries The Guild, who also starred in episodes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and who all geeks want to screw, has a new Dragonage fan film in which she stars in, and you can watch it below.

I can't admit to having played Dragonage, or Dragonage II: Origins, myself. What I will say is that I watched countless hours of my roommate playing it. It's an RPG video game for the Xbox and PC that has some turn-based elements in the hack 'n' slash combat. You also get to have sex, learn magic, and all the other shit that people do in RPG games. Built by the people at Bioware, the gameplay is kind of similar to Mass Effect (the sci-fi RPG by the same company).

Anyfuck, Felicia Day is here in all her nerd glory, seemingly unaware that the only »

Felicia Day’s ‘Dragon Age’ Series: “The Ultimate Experience”

The premiere of the sure to be fanboy/girl favorite original companion web series to video game publisher BioWare’s role-playing title Dragon Age II went live late last night/early this morning on Machinima’s YouTube channel. The first of six installments of Dragon Age: Redemption introduces us to our star Felicia Day’s character Tallis, an ‘knife eared’ Elvin assassin in moderately protective fantasy armor with crazy skills on the hunt for the dangerous and recently escaped Qunari mage Cerebus. Take a look: In addition to slaughtering pigs and humans in front of the camera, Day contributed a helluva lot to the series behind the camera, too. She wrote Redemption, executive produced the series along with Kim Evey and Dan Kaplow, and her Knights of Good Productions (the same crew behind her uber-hit web series The Guild) took on the physical production duties of the program. Clearly you had previous relationships with many of the actors and cameos you have used thus far on Husbands, do you find it an easy task to ask them to make the move from other mediums to a web series?

Espenson: Cheeks was already friends with Alessandra Torresani, whom I worked with on Caprica, so he approached her. I approached Nathan Fillion, who has a guest role on Husbands, which was the easiest thing in the world – I sent him an email and he responded instantly. »

Doctor Who fan Charlie McDonnell gets 1m regular YouTube viewers

17 September 2011 9:32 AM, PDT | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Charlie McDonnell, aka charlieiscoollike, has become the first British person to get a million regular viewers on YouTube, with his videos having received more than 170m views in total to date.

As another, more evil, Doctor, Austin Powers’ Dr. Evil, would say, “One meeeiiillion viewers…”

Charlie McDonnell is a member of the Trock (or Time Lord Rock) band Chameleon Circuit, which sings songs about how awesome Doctor Who is. Their songs, individually and collectively, are published by the brilliantly named record label Don’t Forget to Be Awesome. (Incidentally, this is a phrase that, probably inadvertently, sums up Echo’s character arc in Dollhouse.)

Charlieissocoollike’s videos (Doctor Who-related or otherwise), are, as with Chameleon Circuit's songs, wonderfully funny, catchy, and uncynical. Kind of like the Muppets, if the Muppets were Doctor Who characters. And thanks to the magic of the internet, behold:

Video: Season 5 - Episode 7 - Downturn

The action at Megagame-o-ramacon continues in the latest episode of "The Guild," with cameos by a couple of sci-fi icons thrown in.

Author Neil Gaiman -- held hostage by the demands of Zaboo's (Sandeep Parikh) Seat Savers Network -- original "Battlestar Galactica" star Richard Hatch and Erin Gray ("Buck Rogers in the 25th Century") all make appearances in the episode, which debuted online Thursday (Sept. 8) and which you can see up above.

(Highlight of the episode for us: Watching Vork (Jeff Lewis) lose his mind in the presence of Gray's character.)

Meanwhile, Codex's (Felicia Day) ongoing dilemma about whether she should quit the game and the Guild continues ("I hate being an adult!") -- although she puts off making a decision so she can try to fix one of Tinkerballa's (Amy Okuda) problems.

Halloween can be hard, I know. That’s why you should really just order the Codex from The Guild costume from today. Yeah, that’s right.
