Felicia Day’s Web Series ‘The Guild,’ Now Ten Years Old, Lands In The Smithsonian’s Permanent Collection

July 27, 2017 marked the ten year anniversary of the premiere of The Guild. Felicia Day's web series, which followed a group of gamers as they navigated their interpersonal relationships both inside and outside of their PCs, has endured as one of the great examples of its medium, and it will receive a memorialization that will fit that lofty status. During a panel at Comic-Con, Day announced that several items from The Guild's production will enter the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Institution.

As Day explained to Tubefilter, her discussions with the Smithsonian began two years when the government-funded organization approached her. After lengthy talks, the Smithsonian selected curios from The Guild to add to its American History collection, in order to represent the world of new media. The chosen artifacts include several objects related to the song "Do You Want To Date My Avatar," including the outfit Day wore in that video,

The Tubefilter Meetup Is Back!

It's back! By popular demand, the Tubefilter Meetup is hitting up Los Angeles with at least one event every quarter in 2017.

We're incredibly excited and looking forward to once again playing host to YouTube stars big and small, aspiring and established digital media creators, enterprising entrepreneurs, entertainment industry executives, advertisers, and brand representatives as we all evaluate, critique, and navigate the ever-changing new media landscape among friends, acquaintances, and business associates old and new.

It's crazy to think we hosted our first Tubefilter Meetup almost a decade ago in 2008. Way back then it served as a focal point and stomping ground for individuals invested in the nascent online video and digital media industries. It was a time and place where people with budding businesses and big ideas could congregate to exchange inspirations and know-how or find collaborators for whatever project the democratized tools of entertainment production made possible.

In the years since its inception,

Netflix’s ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ Revival, Starring Jonah Ray And Felicia Day, To Arrive April 14th

More than a year after the creators of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) raised more than $5.7 million on Kickstarter to bring their series back, the cult classic TV show is set to make its return. The revived version of MST3K will arrive on Netflix on April 14th, with 14 episodes slated for its new season.

As it did in its original ten-season run, which aired on channels like Comedy Central and Sci-Fi from 1989-99, MST3K will use its new episodes to riff on the spotty acting, cheesy effects, poor plotting, and other lampoon-able elements of old B-movies. Original series creator Joel Hodgson is involved in the revival as well, but most of the cast will consist of newcomers. Nerdist’s Jonah Ray will star as a man who, accompanied by a pair of chatty robots, is forced to watch the B-movies in question. Felicia Day, of The Guild and Geek & Sundry fame,

On a special Sunday installment of ABC’s Castle, Rick’s testimony as the witness to a murder took an unexpected turn when the mysterious Caleb Brown stepped in to represent the defendant.

PhotosFirefly Reunion on Castle: First Look at Summer Glau’s Private Eye

I was curious how this episode would play out, given the episodic photos that had been released. Namely, why would Rick be attending a book reading in the middle of a trial/investigation?

But as we see right away, that gathering in fact took place five months prior, and it was where Rick

As thousands of adoring nerds will be happy to tell you, Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) is coming back. The long-running cult TV show recently launched a Kickstarter campaign, and its fans were quick to support it; with 17 days to go, the campaign has raised more than $2.6 million and ensured a new three-episode season.

With funding secured, fans began to wonder about the cast of the upcoming MST3K season. As creator Joel Hodgson explained, most of the show’s original cast decided not to reprise their roles. That left a lot of open positions, and in filling them, Hodgson has delivered an exciting bit of casting news: Felicia Day, known for her roles in web programs like The Guild and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, will play the mad scientist who serves as MST3K’s primary antagonist.

The plot of MST3K, for those who are unfamiliar with it, is explained

'MST3K' Reboot Lands Felicia Day as Dr. Forrester's Daughter
Earlier this month, Mystery Science Theater 3000 creator Joel Hodgson launched a Kickstarter page, asking for at least $2 million to create new episodes of the cult classic TV series. The campaign reached its first goal of $2 million in just eight days, which will fund the first three episodes, but they are seeking as much as $5.5 million to produce an entire 12-episode season. The campaign has raised $2.59 million so far, and earlier today, Joel Hodgson posted an update on the Kickstarter page, revealing that Felicia Day has come aboard to portray Kinga Forrester, the daughter of Dr. Clayton Forrester, with comedians Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn set to voice Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo.

Felicia Day's Kinga Forrester will be the new Mad Scientist in this updated version of MST3K, who Joel Hodgson described as both comedic and threatening. The original mad scientist was her father, Dr. Clayton Forrester,

Dr. Horrible Team Reflects on Cutting Costs, Singing Fears, More — Plus: Where Are the Characters Now?
Eight years ago this November, the Writers Guild of America went on strike, a 12-week work stoppage that ultimately scored scribes (among other things) a piece of the growing digital-media pie, but also would come to be blamed for derailing shows such as Heroes and Pushing Daisies while allowing unscripted “reality” programming to gain a firmer foothold in the TV landscape.

The WGA action also helped sire Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, a three-act musical comedy crafted by Whedon brothers Joss, Zack and Jed, along with Maurissa Tancharoen, and financed for barely $200,000.

Joss Whedon Says He Made More Money From ‘Dr. Horrible’ Than The First ‘Avengers’ Movie

Joss Whedon Says He Made More Money From ‘Dr. Horrible’ Than The First ‘Avengers’ Movie
Joss Whedon shared an eye-opening fact during Saturday night’s reunion of the “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” team: He’s made more money from his independently financed 2008 Internet musical than he did from writing and directing Marvel’s first blockbuster “Avengers” movie.

Whedon noted this point during the Q&A following a screening of the 45-minute “Dr. Horrible” tuner starring Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day and Nathan Fillion, who took part in the reunion that kicked off Paleyfest NY at the Paley Center for Media. The stat made jaws drop, as 2012’s “The Avengers” grossed more than $600 million domestically alone.

The foursome shared fond memories of the Diy production process on “Dr. Horrible,” a pioneering moment for made-for-Internet content. “I do enjoy the purity of its success,” Harris noted. “It just was what it was.”

“Dr. Horrible,” a musical about the titular super villain played by Harris, was conceived

Felicia Day Interview: gaming, geekiness and Babe

From Gamergate threats to her new autobiography, we chat to Felicia Day about being weird on the internet...

Being a nerd doesn’t mean what it used to.

In Back To The Future, Marty McFly travels to the fifties and discovered his father is the town punching bag. Being a nerd back then meant tucked-in pants, a shirt buttoned to the top, and a feeble, nasally willingness to do the jocks’ homework. George McFly was a cartoon of tropes, including a professed love for science fiction. But the key difference between the nerd as a high school stereotype and the nerd of 2015 is this: George McFly wasn’t a nerd because of his interest in science fiction – he was a nerd because he was insecure and hadn’t danced to a Chuck Berry riff yet. His interest in sci-fi was an accessory to add credibility to his nerdy identity.

But today,
